Battery type...a bit confused...

ph001 thanks for all the information. I think I will go and buy this battery then. I hope I wont have any troubles, I would not care that much if the battery dies sooner because of not registering it, I would be more concerned if it harms the car's electronics which in my opinion, should absolutely not.
 
P.s all the cars with start-stop function have a botton near or just above the start button right? Just making sure, mine is not with start-stop function. What do you think Smartbear?

The start/stop button is next to the heated seat control by the ashtray :thumbsup:

Ah there is the fix for my curiosity! I think you are right, all the bmw z4s I have seen here are bigger than 2.0L, hence why I never saw one with start/stop function.

Yes its the off button.....
Ive coded mine to “remember last state” so once I turned it off, it stays off and the light is covered by a bit of black tape!
 
AGM and lead acid batteries charge differently

As a rule of thumb, if the car has IBS then it " should " be registered..it has nothing to do with stop / start capability


Put simply, as the battery degrades the IBS senses state of charge, the IBS will then try and maintain the battery to add life.. which usually means the amperage is increased to help maintain full charge.

If the new battery isn't registered then the IBS will be in the incorrect mode to receive the new battery and maintain accordingly ..

I have seen non registration cause issues, and then again some people can pop on a battery that's exactly the same and have no issues

Seeing as it's only a 5 minute job to register the battery, I always do it to avoid any issues in the future
 
So then in that case how do you register a battery is it something you can do yourself or is it a dealer job, sorry if I've missed the answer to this already.
 
Most diag software can do it of which Carly is probably the easiest to use but you have to pay a bit more for the premium feature set. Lots of independents can do it also at less than main stealer rates. Really, I wouldn't bother personally.

Personal choice whether you do it or not..

I just prefer to have things done correctly.

I’d have it registered for a tenner, I’ve heard of people paying over £100 for the same thing which I find ridiculous though!

It will cost me £9.99 to add the battery registration to Carly so not a bad deal.
I don’t think there are many places that would do it for a tenner unless they are charging over the top for the battery in the first place.
The main stealers want a fortune
 
Check this link guys, its by varta, tells you exactly what kind of battery is needed for all types of cars. After searching mine, it seems that Mr Wilks did choose his battery type correctly! ;) On the other hand it also gives a second recommended battery which is 80AH and 800CCA. So I dont really think one has to replace the battery with a new one of the exact same specifications.

I was lead to believe that getting the exact same numbers was important & over capacity could be as bad as under capacity :?
