Don't know Paul. The car had been driven a fair bit and was at a car show a week earlier. It was under close scrutiny by enthusiasts so nothing obvious. Yesterday it had driven only 1/2 mile from his house so no build up of heat on a what was a very hot day
I suspect given the intensity and the seat of the fire under the bonnet, a significant fuel leak or float chamber overflow at the carb. Once the fibreglass caught it really went up.
Sadly I didn't arrive until the fire brigade had done their work

That is such a shame, like you said - most likely leaking fuel and a spark to light it.

When I saw a new post on Bargain Tools, thought someone had received the Chinese stuff from Amazon. Mine is due 23 this month.

I have something that looks the same from Aldi. Coupled to a wall mounted hose, I've run every power tool imaginable on it from air gun, cut off tools, tyre inflation, metal cutter and spraying. Runs all well and I've sprayed many panels, so for an amateur mech I'd say it was a great piece of kit.
