I would ask the dealer Ronk if they change tyres in house or outsource the job and that they can guarantee no wheel damage.

Tim.

It's an "in house" job !
I wasn't convinced that the Halfords place had done ANY never mind MANY Zeds .

I would avoid Halfords full stop simply because a friend used them to install a new Alpine head unit in her Z3 and put the electric hood down manually by forcing it, they didn't fess up to the damage but gave the car back with the hood up hoping she wouldn't notice

Tim.

I wasn't convinced they (Halfords) really knew what or how the run flats were to be removed, he "thought" they might take them off the rear of the rim! That sewed the seed of doubt in my mind, now I've seen this post I'm going to go to the dealer - it's only £12 / wheel I would save - but at what risk?

I'm sure the dealer will be fine, well you would hope so as most of their cars will have runflats fitted so would go with them but I would ask about potential rim damage and whether it might be an issue. I'm sure I've seen some tyre fitters state they don't fit runflats, I expect because of potential rim damage.

I reckon if the dealer can't remove a BMW recomended part without damage then we're all stuffed! :D

For £12 it's a no brainier for me, main dealer every time. I had all 4 done but got a good buying the tyres online with a great saving
I would keep my on a dearer as well though as they can't always be trusted! I ordered a new 1 series a few years and when I went to collect it I noticed damage to the front valance. A member of staff had driven into a kerb or something similar then tried to hide it with touch up paint. Didn't think much to their PDI :headbang:

ronk, I always use the dealer and they are happy to fit the tyres that I supply.

As a casing point - on my previous X5, I had the rears replaced. The cost to the dealer in the end was:

- Replace two rear lights
- Respray entire rear end
- Replace one wheel

I always take pictures in the car park before handing in the car. I could show them that the scratches were not on the rear lights, the boot lid was not damaged and the wheels had no marks. They had to put their hands up.

The tyre fitter must have rolled the wheel (which was in the boot), across the lower part of the boot , across the rear lights and leaned against the top part - damaging the paint

Now you try to get that refunded from a backstreet or mobile tyre fitter ....

I'm phoning them tomorrow!

It's £12 / side extra supplied and fitted over the Halfords price. I'm sure the dealer will balance them properly as well.
It's especially important as I'm off on the Netherlands / Germany trip next month

I always get my dealer to price match & 99% of the time they will

You never know - it might "just happen" to crop up in the conversation while I'm killing some time! :D

My current 3.0 is deep sea blue and black leather - what do I go for this time - (That is if it crops up in the conversation :D )

I can hear me agreeing to a bathroom Refurb as well!

You've done this before!
Do you think it's best to sow the seeds of change so it becomes "her" idea then just agree with reluctance at the appropriate time?
