Ba3bas - Tyres, Wheels & Suspension & Some Carbon Fibre

This weekend is going to be a big one

New tyres (Michelin Super Sports) being fitted to the CSLs on Friday, CSLs being fitted on the car, then AST coilovers on Saturday....
Before, after and in progress shots will be taken.

All this should have happened much sooner but delays happen and I can only say it's about time.

Every time I take a spirited drive I feel the car needs to be a tad stiffer and grippier, and then when walking away it needs to be lower.

Following this I'll have the mould for the front splitter made and then trial remaking it out of Carbon Fibre.

My issue is a lack of space as I need a plastic panel long enough to make the mould and the space to put it.
Luckily I had a big balcony, so just need to source a plastic panel... Any ideas?

Following all this, going to opt for removal of dings and a respray to remove the stone chips as i've done a fair few motorway miles which I never intended to do with the Coupe but hey, what's the point if your not going to use it.

Sounds good! Dont drop the coilovers too much or your spirited drives down B roads will be over!! :P

Mines a little too low for that these days, but luckily I dont have time for spirited drives anymore as all my money is going into a house

Thanks guys, good advice all round and certainly can't wait.

drop won't be huge and first setup certainly won't be last, all about testing.

Audio is a must to improve things all round while keeping the main system OEM, so Amp and speaker upgrades.
Prior to all this I want to soundproof the doors from the annoying little rattles so Neil you better get your thinking hat on mate as if that's happening, some Audio might as well accompany it.

CSLs fitted - yes they poke but surprisingly not by much at all Coilovers going on tomorrow.

Rubber is 235/35+255/30
Matched rolling radius perfectly so no issues and no rubbing.... yet

Looks great I have dropped mine 40 mm and it handles great now. I bit bumpy but I have only used lowering springs. Coilovers are on my long list!! I had to mod the rear arch quite a bit to stop minor rubbing!

What do you need plastic wise I might have a cheap solution? I work at a uni and we use a thing called foamalux for laser grads. It's very easy to cut and shape lightweight might be worth looking at. We might have some left over. I will look when I am back at work. I could cut it out on a band saw for you if I had a template of what you want??

When I fit and run will let you know and thanks for the offer mate.

Assume you mean the rear arch liner would have to be cut at some point to make it more concave internally

ast coilovers (if i'm not mistaken...)

Yes correct

AST adjustable damping with standard and race springs, but I think the race springs are staying in the box.

Out of Interest, current Tyre pressures are 33psi Front 36psi Rear

Feels ok, but worth checking if that's right.

pressure sensor hasn't come on at all after swapping so that's all good

So, ASTs fitted and the ride is great even on 19's
Firm but supple and don't even get me started on corners.

with Michelin Super Sports and the coil overs, I get more speed in corners and no body roll but more push on the kidneys.

Either way the kit doesn't go as low as i'd wanted purely because it doesn't have to, but i'm a sucker for some stance and the CSLs would tuck in better at the rears so gonna put the AST's up for sale and go down a different route.

As for rubbing, only get some on the inner arch lip but rolling rear arch slightly will sort that out.
But that might not be needed with the new kit on the rears.

Nothing like a bit of fiddling.

This is how she sits right now, but if someone wants the AST's they're up for sale on ebay so let me know if any interest and will post up here.
They will be off the car tomorrow when the new setup gets fitted :D

looks to sit pretty good to me! have you removed the adjusters from the rears so they are just on the springs? also give them a few miles to settle at the rear before you go buying more!!

DC is going to be good. at least 3 86's in all their lowered glory!

Too late, fitting them over tonight & tomorrow

I am very trigger happy - when my minds made up I go for gold
Only interested in one thing.... getting the job done :D

New coilovers fitted for an even lower stance, and ride is still compliant yet sporty.
Rears going lower later in the week or next weekend once arch mod is done on Monday.

Love the Z even more.

Went for a hoon with my mate in his M3 and it was neck and neck and in no way do I have M envy when I know this.
