Avon ZZ3's

After being messed about by camskill and getting my order cancelled I went to my local tyre fitter to see if they had the Hankook V12's. They didn't, but suggested the ZZ3's.

Anyone have any experince of these?

P.S. Will never deal with camskill again...

Sorry to hear this.. i have used them atleast half a dozen times.... never with a problem.

Online reviews for the Avons are fairly average.... another option which quite a few tyre fitters stock are yokohama prada spec 2... which are pretty good tyres.

I've got ZZ3s all round and so far can't fault them.
Nice tread pattern and seem nice and grippy. Only thing I don't know yet is how many miles you will get out of them.

If you want something that bad you might as well save yourself £50 a corner and go for linglongs.

They make good track day, race and motorbike tyres, but I've yet to try one of their 'performance' road tyres that lived up to their name.

I'd also agree that the Yokohama Paradas are a much better tyre.

mmm-five, Which Avons are you specifically refferring to because a quick and limited read this afternoon indicate the ZZ1's are really bad, but the ZZ3's are totally different and much better.

Why did they cancel? I know their site doesn't show stock levels so they might not be able to supply once you've placed an order, especially M&S tyres which are in majorly short supply, but they always let you know asap and I've always found them excellent. Their carriers are letting them down big time at the moment though....they had a set of Falkens I ordered shipped as far as Citylinks Cardiff depot last Thursday morning at 0700 (I ordered them at 1230 the previous day!) but they sat there for the next week and are allegedly being delivered here today, but not holding my breath!

CityLink are having a shocker at the moment - victim of their own success most likely. I know that, a few days ago, at one depot they had incoming parcels in lorries waiting for room to be unloaded and sorted. In the mean time Interlink Express have been brilliant!

Sorry to hear that Peddy when things were motoring along nicely for you! Camskill did well by me. I think I'll be buying the Eagle F1s again next time... assuming I can get hold of the damn things, definitely recommend them.

I've tried ZZ1, ZV1, ZZ2, ZZ3 performance road tyres and ZZR, ACB10, CR500 track-biased tyres on cars from lightweight Caterham super lights to barge-like e34 M5s, although I've only tried the ZZ3s on a 400bhp e39 M5, which wasn't mine and thus I wasn't really driving hard, but I just could get any confidence in them - and I didn't know what tyres where on it until I jokingly commented on the ditch finder tyres to the owner, who then replied that they were 'max performance' Avon ZZ3.

While I agree the ZZ3 are not 'dangerous' like the ZZ1 was, they are still not as good as their rivals at the same price point - Falken, Hankook, Yokohama (but not the useless AVS Sport which terrible grip in any conditions).

I suppose basing my rating of them on a hour's drive of an unfamiliar car might not seem fair, but it didn't make me change my mind about their performance credentials.

I had Falken 452s all round on my Z3 and as I would say the ZZ3s are as good and a little cheaper.
At the end of the day they are both budget tyres but in my opinion and experience are adequate for spirited road use.

Well I ended up getting them in the end... I couldn't wait until the new year TBH. Will report back once the tyres have warn in a little...

lacroupade, They called yesterday morning and my father answered. There was a little misunderstanding and he thought they said tiles (my father's a property developer).

The camskill guy never mentioned my name or any further details and before you know it without the guy looking into it further he canceled the order. There were no emails sent to me to say it had been cancelled or anything.

I emailed them last night (not knowing at the time what had happened in the morning) in the evening as I never received a tracking number. They replied the next morning to explain that they called and the man who they spoke to didn't know anything about the order. Called up to explain the situation and they said I couldn't place an order with them anymore because my address was flagged as fraudulent. :tumbleweed:
Even after giving the phone to my father as the guy at camskill remembered his accent they still wouldn't except the order. They were just not having any of it.

I guess they live in a world where misunderstandings have never happened before.

Anyways a big  from me!

:o :o :o not good, Never used them myself but after hearing that i will probably be unlikly too :?

I used ZZ3s on my 225 TT. I found them pretty grippy and reasonably hard wearing when used for very high speed motorway use as well as general country lane thrashing...
...in fact, it was the poor feedback from the car which stopped the tyres reaching their full potential!

One day I must try a car with ditchfinders on them, and then immediately have some PS2s fitted and drive the same bit of road as I really can't tell the difference. Maybe I've never had really bad tyres?

I had some ZZ3s on my 330i, got a puncture so fitted a Hankook Ventus giving me a miss matched axle. I then changed them all to Dunlop Sport Maxxs and genuinely couldn't tell the difference, although I did feel better about having matching tyres. Then I had Pirelli P6000s on my 944 S2, which are considered to be like coal, changed them to Falken 452s, and again couldn't tell the difference.

Given that when you replace tyres they are a) old and b)worn and you are replacing them with tyres that are new and fully treaded, how can anyone really make an informed judgement? Do you "remember" how your previous tyres were when they were new??

had them on my max modded tt when i changed alloys not a great tyre to be honest a bit vague in the dry on cornering and damn dangerous in the wet they sent me aqua planing in sweden on a really good road would never recommend them to anyone

Is this why the steering feels so light?

TBH Worst comes to worse I can sell this set with the tyres after I refurb my other set and then fit the Hankooks.

Mmmm thats a shame.....in their defence, having entered the brutal world of online supply ourselves, if they do ship to a dodgy customer and theres subsequently a problem with payment say, then the card company just shafts them and its a total loss as far as they are concerned, so you can understand their perspective...and much as one would like to give people the benefit of the doubt after any confusion the fact is the seeds are sown, and the real crims are obviously incredibly convincing as well, so putting it right is difficult. Hope you get your tyres sorted though

lacroupade, they should take payment and once cleared they should then dispatch, so I don't really agree with you there... Unless I'm missing something?
