SPECS cameras don't usually monitor the inside lane on a three-laner, you tend to only see two cameras on such occasions.

:rofl:I must say... all those cameras suck for you guys. Being a New Jersey resident (I was going to just say "Jersey", but then I realized you guys actually have that 8) ) I've supposed to have a front plate. Its an ugly yellow and black plate. I velcroed and zip tied it to the bumper for inspection, pulled it off and it has never been on since. Been about 14 months and no one has given me any grief.
Unlike for you guys where both plates are mandatory EVERYWHERE, either a lot of cops either immediately assume I'm from Pennsylvania (I do have the NJ inspection sticker on my windshield) or I'm just not doing anything crazy to warrant him being a punk. I've come to the conclusion that it all depends on what you're driving... A beat up Honda Civic (nothing against them I know they're great) with tinted out windows (illegal here) a go-kart pipe, and a subwoofer going, is probably more likely to get pulled over and given a ticket for no plate. Compared to a service member who is most likely :evil: will not be doing anything wrong at that time.

There are no motorway speed traps in Northamptonshire ......

I've had to endure a long section of average speed cameras (40mph) on a section of dual-carriageway (usually nsl) for 18months so far, with the roadworks scheduled to finish late next year :x. They cover at least a 15-mile stretch and I do everything I can to avoid that section of road but it's kinda hard being the main route between Glasgow and Falkirk/Stirling/the north. Just stick the cruise on at 40mph or so and try to stay awake...

No points taken off the license here for camera offences. The fine goes to the registered owner of the vehicle. To take points off , a police officer has to physically be there and issue the ticket to the driver otherwise it cannot be proven. All our camera tickets are a "Cash Grab" and nothing more...
Also, we are NOT required to have front plates in Alberta.

Wife got a Double flash on the Camera at Newbridge roundabout Edinburgh, the same one she drives past everyday to work, Too busy worrying if her flight was going to take off because of the volcanic ash lat week. Remember however that any speed over the designated limit is an absolute offence and the above speeds are just what they say 'guidelines'. If a fixed penalty notice is issued it is an offer to accept a fixed fine and save a court appearance providing you are not liable for disqualification through the exceeding 12 penalty points, i.e. if you have 10 points already a further 3 for speeding would put you over so the only alternative is a court appearance where you will (unless exceptional circumstances apply) get disqualified.
Exceeding the speed limit beyond the summons speed (as above) will if you are caught either by an automatic device or police observed automatically send you to court where irrespective of your current points total may well attract a disqualification (again unless exceptional circumstances apply - doctor on an emergency call etc).
If you decide to take the points on someone else’s behalf (particularly if in doing so you avoid that person being disqualified) you commit a criminal offence - perverting the course of justice. If you are caught doing this prepare for a short holiday - 6 months in prison. AND of course the person you assist commits the same offence - so a joint holiday!
Fixed point speed cameras have now gone digital which means if you trip one your picture etc which can be downloaded to a remote processing unit who send out the fixed penalty ‘offer’ to the registered keeper. If you are the registered keeper and not the driver and fail to notify who was driving at the time you commit an offence – this will attract a fine and 6 penalty points (your insurance company will love this!).
Having read the thread there are lots of pieces of misinformation with regard to how cameras operate. If the camera is working exceeding the speed limit (beyond the ACPO guidelines) will cause it to trip and flash. As mentioned the calculation is simple distance/time = speed. The angle at which you pass through the camera will also affect the accuracy of the reading. A nearside lane reading (you pass close to the camera) will provide a more accurate reading than say passing the camera in the outside lane (draw a picture and think back to your days in secondary school trigonometry). However such mathematical discrepancies are always allowed in favour of the driver.
At the end of the day exceeding the speed limit is a matter of personal choice and risk.

I complete the 16 mile stretch of roadworks on the M1twice a week and stick to 53 on the cruise, equating to 50/51 via GPS, I see the odd vehicle exceeding this by a little and every so often some numpty will brake as they approach the camera :headbang:

Even worse is those god-awful "information" sign things, that say crap like "Don't Drink and Drive" and "Congestion Ahead". sodding things cause more traffic jams than they save, with idiots slamming on the anchors to read the poxy things!

The M6T is less than a mile from me and it's my escape road to the various motorways North and South and as such use it several times a week. In my entire time of driving it for the last 8 years I've never seen anyone stopped and 90% of the traffic cruises it at 80+. Act sensibly and you'll never have issues. Cruise it at 100 for any distance and invite trouble.
