Average Speed - Anyone Been Got

Makes me laugh that there are 3 sets and the numpties cruise between the first 2 at 60, think they are clear and acceleate off only to come upon the third set and it's all too late
We've had the same on a major road construction up here for the past couple of years: a 15-mile section with a 40mph limit (from an original limit of 70mph) and there's multiple sections covered by sets of average speed cameras. There's always some numpty that blasts away as soon as they've passed the first set lol. I also believe they're advanced enough that it's not just consecutive sets that are linked, but that any two cameras throughout the roadworks can be used to measure average speed. Roll on November 2011 when the roadworks should be finished :)

Correct on the any pair. I have however heard they are only licenced for single lane use, so if you were to pass 3 sets and in the inner, middle and outer lane they would not register. No idea if urban myth, but it has the ring of one

was an early bug in the software/license, since fixed - or so I've read

I regularly speed up for the end of SPECS cameras - I have a Pogo Alert that measures my GPS speed between known fixed cameras, meaning..

if i enter the first zone at 45mph because someone is holding me up, I can then floor it past at 60ish keeping an eye on my average speed so it's back to around 50/51 by the next camera... works brilliantly and in decent traffic it can make you up a LOT of ground.

My missus is one of those that regularly speeds through average speed sections - and she has never yet been caught!

I suspect this is due to a combination of sheer luck and being slowed by other traffic, but she has convinced herself that they simply don't work. I'm unconvinced, but that said I've never personally met anybody who has been caught speeding in an average speed zone...

Gannet - I'm sure you're right. could not let this ort of thing slip throuhg for long..

Andy - I like your style :)

There's so much pleasure to be found in dropping to second gear as one passes the last camera on a stretch of motorway that has been reduced to 40mph... :D

Interesting, I reguarly drive through the average cameras on the M25 on the north side roadworks, and see people speeding and lane swapping all the time and wondered if they have got caught,

so far no one here (unless i have missed something) and no one I know, has been caught by the average speed cameras,

Still not going to chance it tho :|

I still got a set of Dutch plates, speak Dutch - so what is the problem? :D

That reminds me I have a set of German plates somewhere  and I speak a little Spanish, so that should be enough to confuse any copper

So how many RHD Zeds are there from mainland Europe? Would certainly cause a few questions :)

My missus seems to think the cameras cant catch you if you shift lanes. She was a Copper

I have tried the theory an and i have never been booked. These cameras are a bastard as i have to go through them on the work commute. Its like slow torture. Anyone know when they are removing them???

M6 Toll is being used for hunting by traffic cops. Watch out for the fit bird in the R32 and the M5...
The switching lane things USED to work with some of the old style cameras, but it was fixed years ago. There's a story on the BBC website about it somewhere.

A friend of mine had to go to a speed awareness course for doing 50mph in a 40mph average speed monitored stretch of the M4 last year, but he is the only one I know of.

I got done a few years ago on m6 average speed cameras - limit of 50 during quite a long stretch of roadworks, got an average speed of 56, £60 fine and 3 points :x and I was driving a smart car at the time ..... It obviously wasn't that smart afterall! :D :D

I know that to get an average of 56 you must have averaged 56, but the reality of overeading speedos and perhps dropping to around 50 for a few seconds, you must have cruised that at a good 60+ end to end? Am I wrong?

Well, to be fair I probably went into the first couple at about 70 'cos I didn't see them then dropped to 50 and did the last couple well under 40 so I don't know if it averaged all the cameras it picked me up on or if only certain pairs are active?? Not long after that I bought a road angel though :D

OK - that explains. It would have certainly tracked you between any pair. The system can track between any pair or all of them, but no doubt you picked up the ticket on clearing hte first pair too quick.
