Hey, Rory. Quick question for you. I just finished adding a USB power supply to my cig lighter and plugged the USB charging cable into it. After doing so, a rather obnoxious squeal is now present. When I remove the USB charging cable, the noise goes away. The iPod delivers music regardless of whether the charging cable is attached or not, so the charging cable is the culprit. Do you think an RF filter would suffice to suppress this noise? I believe I can acquire one from my auto parts store, but would like your opinion.

The part I am considering is this:

I fitted the fruity cables aux-in to my basic headunit. I also find it is extremely quiet on playback from my iPhone. It is also unusable if I am charging my iPhone from the cigarette lighter socket at the same time due to what I assume us interference.
Maybe some shielding /isolating is required.

Think I'm going to change to an aftermarket h/unit after all.
 
I had the same issue with the first one I ordered and I think some people in the thread are confusing this issue with a very slight drop in volume from the aux compared to the CD/Radio, so just to make it absolutely clear- it's not slightly quieter or a marginal loss in sound quality, it's basically inaudible even with the ipod/phone on full volume and the head unit on full volume, ie. the cable doesn't work properly.

I contacted Rory and he replied immediately and was more than willing to help, he sent me another cable which I fitted and it now works perfectly :thumbsup:
 
Ordered Wednesday, arrived this morning and took about 10 mins to fit once I worked out the air vents!

Drilled a small hole in the passenger side panel below climate controls, and hey presto. Got a very nice discreet aux plug and putting it on the passenger side means the cable doesn't interfere with my using the dash controls.

Sounds great also - it's a little quieter than the radio but adjust the Aux EQ controls on the stereo (owners manual will show you how) and now sounds perfect.

I purchased a cable from you about a year ago and have found that I get terrible background noise when using it when the car is running, made worse when my heated seats are turned on. I really should have got in touch at the time but life took over and I kind of forgot about it.

I'm not expecting any kind of replacement after all this time but wondered if there was anything you could recommend? Is there something I can do to shield the cable from interference or is this something that has been addressed with newer cables?

Any advice would be gratefully received.
 
Howdy, Rory.

Tried using the magnets and got no relief. I then removed the connection to the cig lighter and used an "add a circuit" with only slightly better performance. The RFI is quite significant and the only way to eliminate it is to remove the charging cable when playing the iPod.

Funny you should say this... tbh i dont use the aux input very often but i did put it on the other day and had the phone on charge and the heated seats on and there was awful interference although when i took the phone off charge i could barely hear it, with seat heating off no interference at all so definitely something odd going on when the seats are on
 
I'm looking to add an aux in to my Z4 so i can listen to DAB from my phone, the official kit with replacement ashtray appears to lose the power socket thats currently fitted ? if this is so, how on earth are you supposed to keep a sat-nav charged ?
