Kirkston Pass road was closed but decided it was a good idea to take the Z4M up there.... :? In hindsight possibly not the best idea. Feb 2012

Great pics Breaker! Beauty of shooting into the sun and using a speedgun! Really good example.

Nice pic too carol! Must have been up early for that one!

marchantsuk - Ye if you can find the Sony 5N with the twin lens kit, I think its probably one of the best on the market for quality/value for money. Mine with the 16mm F2.8 prime gives me about the same quality as the 7D and a 17-55mm lens and it can shoot a burst at 10fps, also has face detection, built in panorama - which is awesome, HDR bracketing, shoots RAW really feature packed. With those features you barely have to think about it, whereas the DSLRs you have to concentrate, although the mirrorless cameras make you lazy.. but nm.

Gives great noise performance shooting upto 6400ISO is no probs with a bit of noise reduction, got mine for £400. (the equivalent 7D and 17-55mm F2.8 would cost you £1800 so its a steal if you ask me ((obviously not as good as the 7D but comparable) But they are replacing it with the 5RK I think, it has a rotating screen.... Mirrorless hits a really sweet spot between size a quality. Only problem with the Sonys is the lack of lenses and they are quite pricey. But if you want to get serious you can add the new autofocus Sony lens adaptor so you can use any sony DSLR glass, Zeiss and the whole Konica Minolta back catalogue from the last 30 years. If all you want is something to shoot with and learn then the Panasonic Luminix G2 or the new G3 really hit the spot you can put most brand lenses on it, (all the way up to leica M glass) although its a 4/3rds sensor camera. But If your not blowing the pics up past A3 and dont expect epic depth of field then that will be more than adequate.

Or you can go with a point and shoot, or the higher end super point and shoots but I think they are the worst cameras on the market, really hate them but thats just me. Generally if a camera tries to do everything in one body with one lens they are too good to be true. Depends what you want and how much you want to spend. you have from around £80 to skys the limit.

There is nothing wrong with the canon EOS M, but imo if your used to a quick camera then it will be a disappointment, its about half the speed of the 5n but hopefully they will bring out a firmware, but who knows could be a year, I didnt want to wait. If your used to a point and shoot it will be great, as it is a point and shoot with a apc sensor and has the availability of using all the Canon EF lenses. Its not quite as flexible as the other cameras due to lack of dials so its a camera you would keep on auto more than anything I think. If you want the best lens choice then its a no brainer, but kinda only worthwhile if your already invested in Canon L glass. This ones not for me, I will wait until they make a sony NEX7 rival. But the problem is if they do it will clean up the market and kill lower-med DSLRs. Nikon aren't worth looking at in the mirrorless market they got it really wrong.

If you want nothing but quality go for full frame, 5D MKII, 5DMKIII, D600 and D800. Nikon are wrapping up the market atm caus their sensors are red hot, (funilly enough sony make the sensors...) but I still think the 5D MKIII is probably one of the most perfect DSLRs ever made. Amazing res, shoots 6fps so good enough for sports and has the AF of the 1DX a camera twice the price. But add a lens and your in the £3000 range.

You have to think about space too, if you got a normal DSLR or mirrorless at 16-18mp the RAW files will be 20mb then as soon as you process the raws they will jump to 50mbs, add a few layers files can easily creep into the 300mb range. So you need a quick machine and plenty of disc space for the files. I have a 2008 macbook pro with 8gbs ram and an SSD for on the go and the 7D cripples it and my old 5D MKII used to be unbearable, granted its old but still worth baring in mind. But my mac pro chomps through the images no problem.

If you just want to shoot pics go try some out, but I would try get one with an APC sized sensor. If anything the 650D is one of the best you can buy or its nikon equivalent. Cant go wrong really. Most of the lower end sector is great, and theres not a lot between them more personal choice, its more when you are looking at cameras in the £3000 sector its starts getting a bit sticky. lol. Also depends how anal you are haha.

Ive just ordered my 5D MKIII its backed up because of christmas orders but should be here soon! :)! Excited!? BEYOND!

Ye this is Kirkston Pass about 10 miles from my house. Ye I spent 3 days detailing it... ever since nothing sticks to it, dirt just drops off, barely needs any cleaning at all. Plus think because its grey it doesn't show anything, no swirls nothing. The only pain is the CSLs they gather dirt very quick. Cheers for the comments

All way more expensive than this in Dubai, and looking at the usual sites in the UK the prices are around £600. Where did you pick one up for £400, was this body only?

Nope as its being discontinued I waited until the 5R was in shops... twin lens £400 brand new boxed with twin lens kit and 2 8gb kingston memory cards.
