Autotrader Z4m Coupe

Thoughts?
Service history looks a little odd, would the brake fluid have been done as part of the inspections?

I think it looks awesome.

That interior is to die for and it's got all the toys you'd want/need surely?

The stamps match up to what you'd expect and I've no worries. I would have an independent check and ask them to focus on any bits you feel need looking at, like the brakes.

Lets put it his way, if I was looking now I'd be there :driving:

Having seen the same interior in the flesh i am not overly keen on it... Prefer the blue anthracite.... After my imola anthracite of course

Doesn't look as if its ever had a brake service.

I noticed that as well, was thinking it might have been done as part of the inspection services.

Thoughts on pricing?
It looks like only trade sale M's have been selling lately.

That's an odd service history. He's had an Inspection 2 when he should have had an oil service. I'd want to see the evidence personally because otherwise you'll be due an Inspection 2 shortly.

My service book has the brake fluid changes on a different page and should be done every two years.

I rang the garage and they confirmed that the inspection two was carried out at that mileage.

Brake fluid was done at 14729 miles (4/12/09) but doesn't seem to have been done since.

Is that a deal breaker or would it be OK to just get it done as soon as I had bought the car?

£15k is par for a relatively well specced car with 50k miles imo.

Looking at this car, it's not a complete flimper spec (although missing cruise and loudpseaker/ DSP options) and has a cool interior combination.

I though Inspection 2's (not sure about 1's) included a brake fluid service also, so might not be as bad as it looks.

If you can get around the brake fluid issue and run it and properly maintain it for a few years I don't think you'll have too many re-sale issues (any issues would have manifested by then).

The advertised price looks fair given the above (imo ofcourse). If you can get it for £13,750 you've got a great deal imo.

Brake fluid is not part of a standard inspection.

However, my experience of BMW brake fluid 'services' is that they always need re-bleeding afterwards to remove the spongy pedal.

Luckily mine is done at least once a year - usually before a 'Ring trip (sometimes afterwards too). Don't think my book's even been stamped with the dealer brake fluid services, so will have to get that sorted if I ever try to sell mine. Would probably make all the difference on a 100k mile car :P

I don't think brake fluid would be a deal breaker for me but I'm not sure of the consequences of not changing it. I suspect a change as soon as you get it and it would be OK. The inspection II done not by a main dealer and out of sync just seems iffy to me. Why would someone scrimp on a £99 brake fluid change but voluntarily put it in for a close to £1,000 service 20k miles early? Ask for a copy of the valve clearance before and after readings - I'd want some tangible evidence personally.

The problem is - as anyone who's been through a couple of inspections will know - the dealers don't generally supply you with the clearance measurement sheet unless you specifically ask for it BEFORE they do it.

I spoke to the garage that performed the inspection 1 and 2 yesterday, the guy actually remembered the car (being a rare car has its advantages...).

Guy in the garage said the car was perfect when he had it (taken with a pinch of salt of course....) and that it was a new owner that wanted it checked out that got the inspection 2 done.

I'm considering getting it inspected by BMW prior to buying, its their 'roadworthiness test' around £50. Is it worth it or a waste of time?

Hi,

I have been directed to this discussion by a couple of people who are interested in my car (the car which is being discussed).

I would like to clarify a few points relating to the car to clear up a few assumptions which have been made:

- There is absolutely nothing dubious about the servicing; the previous owner is an M car fanatic and had the car serviced immediately after buying it as he wanted to ensure the car was in perfect working order from the outset
- An oil change is due in 4750 miles
- The previous owner sold the car due to receiving a new company car (1M Coupe) which I must add looked pretty special parked outside his house!
- A full AA inspection was carried out on the car prior to me collecting it even though I had already paid in full, the seller was adamant this take place; the only thing picked up was that the front tyres needed replacing (he paid for new Conti M3's and the inspection).....I know an AA report isn't of much value but I feel that this showed how highly the previous owner regarded his car; he had posted about the car on a previous discussion on this website in May 2013, I will try to find the thread
- The car has had its brake fluid changed (14,000) miles and I am unsure as to whether it was carried out during the Inspection II (I have this service invoice). The brakes are extremely responsive, if anything they could do with being a little less!

The car drives like a dream and is in absolutely fantastic condition inside and out. I really do not want to have to part with the car but I have had a change in role in work and there is no way the cash allowance I currently receive will be enough to warrant me driving the Z4MC over rough terrain to get to remote gas stations within South Wales. I am taking delivery of a Mazda CX5 (company car) on Tuesday next week (life is changing for the worse after just turning 28!) and the mrs is on my back as she doesn't agree with me having two cars, she doesn't drive unfortunately.

I purchased this car after carrying out extensive research and having a few lengthy discussions with the previous owner due to having costly problems with a Porsche Boxster S I owned a couple of years ago. I will never in my life buy a Porsche again after having to stump up £4500 worth of repairs within the first week of ownership. I sold the car within three weeks of buying it and bought a 3.0i Z4 convertible which was a cracking little car - I had to sell the car is I had a company car at the time and I wasn't getting any use out of it due to work commitments. My experience with the 3.0i pointed me to the Z4MC when I had the opportunity to own another sports car. I would never offer a car for sale if I wasn't certain it was in top condition, Porsche ownership and rushing into a purchase taught me a harsh lesson, I would not sell anyone a car which I was 110% confident in.

I have listed the car at £14,000 but I really cannot sell it for any less than that amount as the car is a corker, whoever buys it will be extremely pleased. I am more than happy for an inspection to take place on the car although I am positive the car is perfect working order. The mechanic who carried out the MOT gave it a thorough check over (on my request as I had purchased the car two months prior) as he had never seen a Z4MC before, I was in the garage for just under two hours! The car has never had an advisory, I have all of the MOT certificates to date; latest MOT carried out in August 2013.

If you have any questions relating to the car please get in touch. The car has been valeted and is ready to go but like I say I really cannot let it go for any less than the £14k asking price, it is a superb car and has been a pleasure to own.

Cheers, Damon

Welcome Damon..

Who had it serviced out of the dealer network at Benz Bavarian, you or the previous owner?
