Audible beep with oil pressure light flashes when turning ignition off sometimes

Hi all,

Odd one (well, I think it is). I pulled into Tesco about a week ago and when I turned my car off, the car made a beeping noise, similar to the noise to warn you you've left the lights on if you try get out with them on, and the oil pressure light popped up for a split second.
This is odd to me because it's like the car threw it up JUST as I turned the ignition off and then disappeared when the car turned off. It's done it once since, again at the Tesco car park. This is about a 2 mile journey and I'm thinking it could be something trivial as opposed to an actual issue.

I've ran an OBD check and nothing. There's no oil leaks visible on my drive where it's parked and the dip stick has the perfect level of oil. When this happened both times, I turned the car straight back on and the start up sequence shows all the lights it needs to and then they all go away, even the oil one.

Has anyone got any idea at all? It's very odd to me.

The beep means the engine needs a litre of oil, if you say the dipstick is definitely showing full then it sounds as though the sensor’s defective :?

I get this every couple of months. Is a feature of the electronic dipstick. Add a litre of oil and all is quiet for a few months. these engines to use a little bit of oil

Since you're both saying this is the issue then I'll give it a go. I figured it was something to do with the short journey since it's never happened on a longer journey.
The dipstick is definitely at the perfect level. I'll keep an eye on the level of the next few months and add a little bit of oil. Don't want to add too much if the level is fine :roll:

are we talking real dipstick or electronic.. the display normally says add 1L when it beeps if you have the electronic dipstick

I wasn't aware these have electronic ones? Unless we're talking about something else and I'm missing something. I can remove the dipstick and visually check the level of it like you'd expect from any other car. So if the Zed has two or different models use different types then I'm not sure...

If your zed has a traditional dipstick then it won’t have an electronic one, that was fitted to later facelift cars with the n52 engine.
It will still have a sensor that sends the “add oil” warning beep when you turn off the ignition though, it sounds like that’s flakey if the oil level’s fine on the dipstick :?

Well, it only makes the beep and the oil light flashes for a split second as I switch the ignition off. It doesn't specifically tell me to top up oil but then I'm not sure if it will display that sort of information that obviously. My Mk5 golf was a 2005 and it had a LCD display that would show certain warnings in writing and I'm surprised these cars don't.
