Audi & Skoda admit 3.3million cars cheat emissions test

In an update to the article linked in the first post, Skoda have admitted it now - another 1.2 million cars, bringing the total to 3.3 million

...... should be abolished & the duty added to fuel

Yep. This is the only fair way and it will also stop those theiiving gypsy b****rds and other low-life dodging it completely, whilst granny who only does sub 1500 miles per year would pay a more reasonable amount for her minimal use.

Why are we so surprised by this . . . . :?

Corruption in big business - looking for ways to abuse and work around the system to make more money - false presentation and misguidance.

Noticed how packaging has reduced in size but prices stayed the same? you get the idea . . . .

Was there ever a better time when folk looked to give value for money and a fair deal?

Wondering where all this leaves our road tax valuations which are based on these emission tests? Highly embarrassing for someone.

Isn't the huge issue with the NO2 emissions? Not that I doubt the CO2 emissions are not utter kak too but your VED is based on CO2 emissions and not NO2 emissions and it's NO2 which is much greater than people believe it to be. Diesel engines produce these emissions by the bucket load and it is worse for the environment and peoples health, especially if you have respiratory issues.

Hence why from this year all UK diesels being MOT'd have an additional test to do with NO2 I believe and in 2018? I believe London will charge an additional £10 on the daily congestion charge for Diesel engined vehicles.

The EU are already looking at changing how tests are carried out due to complaints from consumers that real world figures are nothing like advertised. Which we all know to be true. Strangely in the EU these tests are funded and carried out by the car industry but in the US it is an independent body who do these tests.

I reckon that Bloodhound SSC's got cheat software too.
I'd like to see the size of the pipe they'd have to stick up its 'zorst for a representative sample to check the emissions

Going back to the original comments if VW diesel owners get a recall to modify their software so that emissions meet specifications ie original road tax bandings they will effectively detune the cars. Imagine you have say a four year old car and you get a call from VW asking you to bring the car in so they can tweak the software so that your cars performance suffers and you get less mpg. How many people will beat a path to VW - you will more likely leave the car as it is and hope the Govt doesnt reband the entire range based on real emissions.

Angie already explained that - nothing to do with MPG nor emissions that are relevant for tax banding. Only NO2 emissions are "wrong" and they have 0 impact on taxation.

Its all propperganda , or as they say a goose with b....ks. theres nothing new in emission cons, I remember stripping a V12 jag engine for my cobra and they got round emissions by fitting a air compressor and blasting air into the exhaust valves chambers to make it appear weaker coming out the exhaust , how much of a con is that.

This so misses the point and has nothing to do with the odd garage cheating tests or even manufacturers making their ECU work better at certain rpm. Hell I've had MOT's when the sensor was in another cars exhaust.

This is a sophisticated manufacturer programme operated cross brand at a global level to detect testing and 'cheat' the emissions system

And so now the media turn on Mercedes, BMW & Peugot ... deflection tactics? Once again these guys are doing the same as everyone else..

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3252717/Now-t-trust-car-giants-mpg-VW-scandal-Mercedes-BMW-accused-fuel-efficiency.html

All this is showing to me is that the testing is pointless, especially since they havnt been updated since 1997!

The compressor was in fact fitted by jaguar as a way of getting round the emissions at the time, so I see as no different ,its cheating , its just that now its done with computors.

Ok nothing to do with taxation then but what will the mod entail and will it affect the cars performance etc. Either way owners of these cars are likely to be very suspicious of what it will do to their engine unless they are told very specifically. Re the Mot test arent there plans for No2 emission tests on diesels from next year?

I heard on the radio whilst washing the dishes lol that owners of cars affected here should be reinbursed in what shape or form I dont know as such owners were paying for a premium brand i.e. VW which promotes green low emission vehicles.

Is your average owner actually bothered over all of this? I guess it can seen as fraud but for me emissions are right down there at the bottom of the list when buying.

Tim.

Couldn't agree more and frankly I feel I was coerced/forced into a diesel on a green nonsense ticket. Let's get real and recognise there is one reason and one reason only why we have co2 ratings and that is as an excuse to raise taxation.
