Audi & Skoda admit 3.3million cars cheat emissions test

I'm not sure whether the ramifications here in the EU will be as bad as in the US, I suspect VW 'needed' the cheat in order to meet the US regulations without the need for Adblue etc. Whereas in the EU where the limits are more than twice as high on particulates presumably any tweaks to meet limits in a truthful manner will be less severe?

Or maybe I'm completely wrong and this will change the face of diesel cars throughout.

Ok nothing to do with taxation then but what will the mod entail and will it affect the cars performance etc. Either way owners of these cars are likely to be very suspicious of what it will do to their engine unless they are told very specifically. Re the Mot test arent there plans for No2 emission tests on diesels from next year?

Sorry MOTs have already been changed to test emissions and the DPF as its the DPF which is 'supposed' to trap some of these emissions. Believe it or not but just like CATs, people have been removing them to make their cars more fuel 'efficient'.

I did read that there was more tests to be brought in for Diesels under EU regulations. Can't for the life of me remember what, i'm sure the NOX readings featured and given the now situation I'm sure it will end up featuring heavily.

At the end of the day, people have been sold diesel cars based on them being more fuel efficient and cleaner for the environment due to producing less CO2, except they actually harm the environment more by producing an even worse emission, emissions that are not advertised or usually divulged by manufactures. So we petrol drivers have been penalised for higher VED due to us driving nasty CO2 poulting vehicles, whilst diesel drivers with lower CO2 emissions have had lower VED rates, except their NOX emissions are causing even more harm to both the environment and others health.

Maybe it's time that not only the testing of cars are changed to 'real world' tests but ALL emissions are checked and VED (to be called road tax from 2017) is reflected accordingly.

In years to come people will be receiving phone calls and emails from companies set up to "recover losses" for anybody who has been "missold" a VW diesel.
The PPI brigade have got to go somewhere.
