Attention abroad

Me, my fiancée and the zed are on holiday in France this week, down in Sarlat in the Dordogne. We’ve been on day trips out where we’ve taken the zed and the attention it’s getting is totally crazy... we’ve turned almost every head we’ve driven passed, had loads of kids and teens waving at us - even fully grown adults have waved at us and shouted ‘tres bien!’

I’ve had some nice chats in car parks and petrol stations in the uk as I’m sure most of us have, but nothing like this. I’d say it’s probably the same as driving a Ferrari in the uk.

So did France not get the z4 or something? I always assumed they would have done. Maybe where I am is so remote they haven’t seen them.

It has made us both laugh though.

Areyou sure they are reacting to the car?
Do either of you have silly hairstyles / faces / dress-sense?

 it’s deffo the car as we parked it within view of our table at a cafe and people seemed interested in it. A bit weird to be honest.

If you hadn't noticed, most of the French buy crap cars and there's a heavy bias towards the French brands. They don't care about bodywork damage and it's rare enough to see a 3 series let alone a Z4.

I was sat at some lights in my C63 estate when a white van pulled up and said I had a 'magnifique voiture'. It is fun to be the best thing on the roads for miles, enjoy it.

Had the same thing whilst on our Euro trip, most notably in Czech, much to the annoyance of a friend in his Red Mk7 Golf GTI.

These were my thoughts too, but I thought it might make them even less likely to care about seeing a decent car. You must be right though. And it is a good laugh :)

You can imagine the looks you get when there are four of young running in convoy over there, in Black, Red, Black Red Order :D

....and then when the group double in size for the next couple of days. :D :D

My dad's Ford Granada 2.8 Ghia used to attract a crowd if it was parked up anywhere when we lived in Poland in 1978.
Locals probably amazed that any western car actually made it deep into the country as there were no motorways of any sort back then. All you would see were Polski Fiats, FSU's and these hideous things which resembled slightly larger trabants.
People always friendly and welcoming though 🙂

I noticed the same thing in western France a couple of years ago. I thought it was probably my film star looks but on reflection, it could have been the Z4C they were staring at! :)

Nah man, the ooo’s and aaaah’s of them seeing the best looking Z ever made will more than make up for it. :poke:

Had a similar experience in the Netherlands at the end of June a few weeks ago . The Dutch police at passport control loved the car, in a traffic Jam on the motorway a guy rolled his window down to comment how nice the car was and in the towns we visited Delft and Groningen when parked up, queuing to get on the ferry both ways, Even when we got back at uk passport control.
Car did look well though roof down and 30o sunshine. :D

Just had my Coupe out in the Bordeaux area for 10 days. 3rd year in a row I've taken it down there. Does turn heads! Always a joy driving on the quiet, smooth, sweeping roads passing vineyard after vineyard.

I had the same admiring glances from the French wihilst driving through villages, towns and the cities, when I drove past a school outing all the kids got excited and started waving and you could hear the going 'wow'. :D

I think they are still seen as a "luxury" sports car in most of Europe. A friend of ours recently sold his2003 sterling auto for over €10,000.00 a Spanish registered version .They are very expensive n Spain.
D

Same in northern Spain and western France recently with a Cayman. Might as well have been an F40.

I think that the French have a car dilemma. In the past France has made a large number of interesting cars, making them keen on cars. However, their dilemma is that they like to buy French, but France no longer makes interesting cars. They therefore drool over cars such as Zeds.

If you go to Le Mans, the bridges over the motorways have whole groups, who have brought chairs and picnics with them. They are there just to see and wave at the (mainly British registered) cars.

Some might say that this is the only redeeming feature of the French!
