Attention abroad

Down in the Dordogne priorities are food, wine , friends and family .....fancy houses and cars tend to come much lower down the priority list for most French....

I’m doing my best to live to their culture whilst I’m here... particularly the wine bit

Don’t think there are many Zeds there. I spoke to a French guy once who always wanted one. Must have been no demand for them so they’re defo a rareity

We spent 9 weeks touring France in April May and June and only saw a handful of Z4s and not 1 coupe in 2800 miles. They are rare over there

[ref]Silverzedtom[/ref], Really want to make a trip to France in the Zed...!
How did you survive with the limited boot space, women being women :poke:
I have an E89, so you have a little more room to play with.

You should! We have brought one very large surfers hold all, four large carrier bags, a giant inflatable Flamingo, food for the journey and about 6 pairs of shoes (two pairs are mine  ). We still had loads of space to spare due to the shape of the boot, but we didn’t need to take anything else.

My dad has an e89, and I have no idea how he would fit the same amount of stuff in whilst still leaving room for the roof.

A little annoying but you could always pack everything that would go in the case / bags straight into the boot, and packing a fabric bag in empty.

I’m making the most of having the zed this year, 1 months time and I’ll be back in the que for the tunnel to drive over to Amsterdam :D

Its easy trust me, we went for 2 weeks and still had room to bring back a dinner service, 4 bottles of Champagne, 3 bottles of wine and 5 new shirts for me, if you pack it correctly you can stack it higher than the boot lid, oh plus screenwash, polish, oil, jump leads and a tow rope

Steve84N summed it up best, I leave here and get the same comments. The French look at cars as pain in the butt, and something that costs them a fortune to maintain. They see the Zed as getting half of a car when they can get a 4 seater and plenty trunk space.

Just drove back from Germany yesterday and it was full of convertibles and people love their cars, bit different then here in France.

Much like the uk it depends where you are in the country I'd say.
Down here in provence I see loads of 911s, lots of caymans/boxsters, quite a few californias, some very tasty classics, and then the the usual macan/cayenne/rr sport etc.
Seen a few e89s but no 85/86s, guess they're a bit cheap!
Earlier in the year I visited charente-maritime north of bordeaux, and it couldn't have been more different, car wise.

The French don’t pay vat on French cars, so they are much cheaper than BMW’s etc. This is the main reason you see mainly French cars in France.

Last time I was there a French guy in an E90 was trying to talk to me. Couldn’t understand him but he was pointing to an invoice and the tax line. Wasn’t till I drove off I realised what he was trying to converse. But of course we have to pay vat on what ever car we buy.

Given that we have no true UK manufacturers of cars left (excepting Bristol if I'm not mistaken) then that vat exemption if it were applied in this country wouldn't be of much use!

You forgot Morgan! :)

But how French are some French badged cars - there's plenty of Nissan in Renaults!

Loved the EU road trips in my old Maldives vert, so true what’s been said about them in France as a real rarity, & I think it’s this that makes them stand out in the attention stakes as much if not more than your porkers, lambos... etc

Not to mention Westfield, Caterham and Ariel... Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the UK applied the same tax rules. The M25 on a wet November night would be hilarious!

I passed a nomad on the m4 the other day, just awesome!

Quite true, but Renault is still owned in it's entirety by the French if I'm not mistaken?

Probably not - Renault seems to be a Nissan sub-brand! Good luck with that.

I'd love to have a play in one, unfortunately I'm not even likely to see one now I'm back in Aus.
