Atrial Fibrillation

There is from this old crock!

My bpm went up to 160 again and would not come down.
I spent yesterday in hospital and this morning at a clinic.
Another pill each morning the strength of which could be increased- if that doesn’t work the it’s been suggested that the next stage is is and ablation and pacemaker!

Oh joy!

That's a bugger Ronk.... :(

As you'll prob know you can have up to 6 ablations, pacemakers are very good these days apparently, might give you a turbo boost....!

The last ablation, the surgeon said if it returned, the next stage was “ablate and pace”. I assume that means another ablation with a pacemaker to control the rhythm.

I don’t know what happens when bpm has to rise?

Fingers crossed for the Beta Blockers at this stage - it’s currently sitting nicely at 65
Im on a low dose (2.5mg) and if it does the trick then all well and good- if not, a 5mg pill each day.
Then it’s the little black box in the chest and no putty my iPhone in the top pocket or wearing an iwatch I suppose.

The doctors were singing the praises of my iwatch - they said that the were probably better than some of the hospital portable kit. My watch is 18 months old and the ECG facility has gone kaputt- the consultant suggested I but another - I suspected they might have thought of them a toy or gimmick- apparently not

You are having a rough time at the moment. Until problems arise we tend to take health for granted. I know I always thought it would be someone else not me. Fingers crossed the new dosage does the trick.
We have just had a phone review this afternoon for our health insurance. The new premium is due in October. I think I might have to send my good lady out on the streets to cover the likely increase.🥴

Any news Doc...?

In for cardioversion on Saturday John :o

Not doing too bad on the meds, but it’s very easy to over do things and need to have a break quite often.

I play guitar in a rock band, our (mid 60s) drummer has had a pacemaker for 20 years or so and handles 2 hour gigs better than I can! If that’s what a pacemaker does for you bring it on.

Must say we haven’t played since I got AF, hoping to get back to it soon 8)

That’s very re assuring to hear!

Ps I hope my musical skills improve if I do have an electronic metronome fitted!
Ronnie and his Pacemaker sounds vaguely familiar???

I sincerely hope your procedure goes well on Saturday- don’t rush about afterwards. Just sit calmly for a day or two

Thank you everybody.

Not to be a pessimist but the consultant who performed the procedure today was quite clear that cardioversion is often not a permanent fix and slipping back into AF after hours, days or months is not uncommon. Anyway, so far so good, I guess I should avoid the pub and my wine cellar more frequently! :)

Sorry to have to agree with with you degree of pessimism - but after my no 2 ablation to ‘cure’ my a/f the surgeon gave me the same warning- it has taken four years to return.

Apparently Caffeine and Alcohol are no no’s unfortunately.
We will just have to reduce consumption .

Have you been clear of the AF and reducing the trips to the cellar ?
Im still taking the tablets (Beta Blockers) which seem to have it ticking over at about 60Bpm

My pulse is now steady and strong, and I feel much better. Pulse around 60 bpm.

Still on the Sotalol beta blockers and Apixaban blood thinners.

Still making the pub and wine cellar trips but nothing like as frequently as before :D

Hmmm, well I have to admit that my favourite pub in the village, within walking distance, closed down a couple of weeks ago due to the current financial/energy crisis.

However it is reopening under new management on Friday so I just may call in for a swift one.

I know this is a while back - but I’m interested to know if it’s been beating like a swinging brick?
Mine still gives the odd flutter and sometimes records A/F on the iwatch - but In general it is ok with a resting bpm of 56:60
I hope yours is all ok a the procedure did the trick!

The Consultant noticed the iWatch when I saw him last time and gave it a  I honestly thought he was going to ridicule it but said he considered it better than the NHS single channel monitors.
Because of previous problems I tend to use it more often than not.
