Nosa is right, I often look at the condition of the car i park next to. If it looks nice then i park next to it, if it looks like a scrappage scheme wreck i steer clear. I also always try to park at the end of a row so that my car can only get dented on one side.

yes but what happens when you return and the scrappage scheme wreck has parked next to you, and to top it all the drivers side, so I know that door opened AAAAAaaarrrgghhh

That wouldn't be my choice of space TBH - it's exposed on 3 sides, big possibility of someone reversing into it or simply walking past it and scuffing it accidentally with a bag/jacket. That space on the far left at the end looks like an end space and looks quite a wide one too, could be under a tree though which is another big no-no for me...

My company has rules in car park. All cars must be reversed into space, and must go clockwise in the car park. I prefer that space mainly because it eliminates getting dents when people open their door. Spaces under the trees are good in winter, but I don't park there in summer to avoid tree sap.

No chance other cars will reverse into it as cars will only drive straight out from parking space.

We have a German corner (with the odd Italian sneeking in) in the work car park. It seems to work well. Its about 300 miles away from the rest of the cars but it's a peace of mind thing Not a single door dent from work yet!

Supermarket carpark should have the following parking bays:
- Family with children and buggies (near the entrance)
- Family cars and others
- Old bangers (worth less than £1k)
- White vans
- Performance cars (under 7-year-old/minimum 200 bhp)
- Performance cars (over 7-year-old/minimum 200 bhp)

Yeah,nothing worse. i even park over 2bays,in an end space also,miles away/far end of carpark,and u still get some tw*t,occassionally,parking over the white line in the next bay,just so as to be within "dinging" distance from mine. aaargh

(they obviously get annoyed at ppl with nice cars parking over 2bays/to avoid dings/so do it outa badness).

Revenge is sweet though,so maybe one day these tw*ts will get a decent motor they care about,and have some person in an old van fling their door open against it,hard (we can wish)

Being the "middle" of what is essentially a roundabout car-park doesn't ensure safety


As I've said many times, double guessing safety often leaves you more in harms way. As the OP's example shows, doing what seems sensible often turns out to be less of a good idea when faced with the odd logic of others

Not sure ksher think you might be vulnerable there. Cars driving around you, also as your works rules are to reverse into space you'll get people going in and out of there space to adjust (could slip on the clutch and lurch into yours), plus someone has to parallel park around yours- lots of potential error from poor drivers there.

Best bet find an end space that has a bay to the right of you and not the left. That way if the rule are everyone backs into their space it will leave their passenger side adjacent to your car. Most people at most places of work (might not be true of yours I accept) drive to work alone therefore there will be no opening of the passenger side door onto your drivers side.

Luckily I have a second car at the moment, I almost thought of getting rid of it as I now travel by train to work, but glad I kept my runaround. Especially earlier this week when I came home from work, got off the train and went to get in my runabout in the train station car park. Some Tw@t had parked so close to my car that I had to get in the passenger side to get in! they must have parked 6 inches away from my drivers side!!! At least I didn't have to worry about my Z getting dinged .

Agree with that, just take some numpty to misjudge their turn and ding. Always always an end space and hard against the furthest away line. Trouble is idiots with sheds tend to have a herding mentality and don't give a toss. On one occasion someone opened their door against our two week old Cooper S while I was sat in it. When I went ballistic they said " it's okay cause I got plastic strips along me door". My wife ended up physically restraining me... :thumbsdown:
