Argument in a car park

Also a bit of a life lesson not to square up to people unless you are able to defend yourself. For all you know he could've been hard as nails and kicked the crap out of you and smashed your skull (you really never know). I had a similar issue a few years back and ended up getting headbutted by a squaddie.... luckily I dipped my head in time and he headbutted my forehead (he was aiming for my nose). He buggered off after that but I don't want to know what would've happened had he not.

The most sensible piece of advice on this thread.

There was a thread on PH a few months back which the OP wrote from his hospital bed after a road rage incident escalated to him having half his face stoved in by a lunatic.

Right or wrong makes no difference. Stay in your car and stay defensive. Anything else isn't worth it. Maybe your male pride takes a bit of a bruising but that's preferable to what could get bruised, or worse.

Just an observation from reading the first post that as outrageous as it may seem, from his perspective it's a very different story.

You drove into his parked car and didn't even know, then when advised made a limited apology, then started taking photos. He was already upset that you'd hit his car and so started to get more upset. You became abusive, shouting and aggressive with finger pointing, etc. Somewhere along the line it became 2 on to him as your girlfriend was out of the car and as a 55 year old guy he was intimidated.

Perhaps not a jot of truth but an alternative view.

Frankly I'd have done the apology bit, asked if he had any damage and driven off. My health, car and partner would be too important given the nuts around these days.

One of the many reasons I studied Karate at a young age... I'd have involved the police for assault, end of.

Trust me on this, you defend yourself using martial arts, you get a visit from the boys in blue. Someone once took a swing at me with a large piece of wood (not a baseball bat but that size) after a verbal argument escalated. He woke up in hospital and I had an uncomfortable interview with the local constabulary. Fortunately for me there were witnesses or I suspect I may have been up before the beak.

Edit - a long time ago. I wasn't 20 at the time. Now I'm 50 and far more chilled about life

I've taught extreme self defence for years (Jeet Kune Do, Kali Silat) and have always been told, and then subsequently passed on, that the best defence is simply not to be there... in other words 'Leg it'.
If thats not a viable option then it's a case of First with the Most is the Best. And it is always better to be judged by twelve than carried by six, if you know what I mean.
It sounds like a thoroughly horrible experience for the OP and I'm glad it didn't escalate further. I'd certainly be looking to press charges against that loon, even if it stops him doing it to someone else. I'd hate for something like this to happen to my wife or mum over something so trivial. Imagine if you'd actually done some real damage to his car!! He's a nutter who needs his collar felt.

Went to minor injuries. They just said wash it. Spoke to the police who said if I don't want to press charges there's little point in reporting it but will call back to do so anyway. I didn't get a phone number for the workman bloke who was there, only his name so they said that's no use.

Separate incident of reversing into a post...Damage to the car is baaaaad! Stripped to bare metal.

Oooh, that damage is crap dude, unlucky. He was out of order and I would do him for assault if I could but I don't really know how I would have reacted if someone backed into my car, gave me s**t and pointed a finger, if you'd have used my most hated word 'pal' ??????

Should have sent him home with his teeth in a jar  Obviously this would land you in serious trouble, so kudos on the restraint not to hit the gimp!

Its a crap system i think, because if you make a complaint and the police follow it up and go to see him and he makes a counter complaint that they then have to follow up and visit you :!: :!: :!: Its no wonder people are more inclined to just leave it :x But i say, do him  absolutely no reason to bite your finger and anyway biting is for girls :o no offense ladies
Having studied many martial arts in my earlier years i too have to agree that you have to be careful if you use what you know.
Still biting a finger :!: :!:

i would forget it ever happened and move on, life is too short. come on guys there are a lot more things that arte worth getting worked up about. a friend of mine's mother came over to see her grand children the other day with a save the children charity booklet showing the conditions in syria, she wanted to instigate a discussion with them and get them to realise how lucky they were to live here withe all the luxuries they have, horses, private education, ski hols etc etc . all four girls took it on board and willingly gave up ammounts between 25 and fifty pounds that they felt they could afford, my friend then matched the total they had raised so grandmawent away with over 300 quid for an excellent cause and more aware grandkids , my friend was very proud of them,. she by the way is a dentist, , who works really hard to provide for her family she is also a single mum. why not donate a few quid to the same cause rather than to a load od lawyers,

:o bit your finger! I'd be getting that checked out pronto!
I'd also report the nutter to the boys in blue. Bad darts that....

Bad darts...? you guys crack me up..
OP - sorry about the scrapes on the car.
And I agree, the guy sounds like a nut job. I'd press charges though.

Eugh people that can't park do my nut in - a bitten finger sounds like a great excuse to teach him a lesson.

You're typing on here, so you can't be that hurt :D
