Are you a proper local?

Morning all.

Having been born and brought up in the Peak District and for one reason or another which I won't bore anyone with I've as yet never lived anywhere else, i'd love to live by the coast but it's not going to happen for the foreseeable. Anyway I reckon I'm in a minority and it's probably not a good thing never to have moved around a bit, but I wonder if there's anyone else that has lived in one spot only so far in life, or has anyone moved for whatever reason that they would rather have stayed where they we're brought up?

Any stories post them up, i find it interesting to hear where people are from and why.

Cheers as usual if anyone posts.

Have lived in Liverpool for most of my life, was born here.

Family moved around the north-west with their jobs for a few years when I was a kid, but finally settled in south Liverpool.

However, since I started doing my current job (at about 19), I've rarely spent more than 3 nights a week in Liverpool as I've been working in projects and living in hotels all around the UK/World.

Born in Birkenhead... left when I was 22 and never been back, lived in London, Cotswolds, Cardiff and Chester... finally settled in North Wales and love it here... Id like to retire to Spain though as I rather dislike our climate :D

No I'm no local. Born in Bootle. We were always moving house, school around Liverpool and Birkenhead. Lived in 25+ houses in Liverpool, Wirral, Portsmouth, Rosyth & Plymouth areas, until we moved to our current home in Cornwall 20 years ago. Love it here, pace of life is so much more sensible. No plans to move again just yet. :D

Nope he was a chippy on building sites. However my parents discovered they could make more money doing up old houses, than that paid.. So would buy one move us all in for 12 months then move on. Then I joined the RN. :)

Where in Cornwall?

My mate/mechanic has recently moved from Essex to somewhere quite rural near Launceston (Lezant is the nearest place with a name). He's got lots more space now, but means my servicing will be an extra 50 miles further away from home.

Born in Lee, South East London
Moved to Solihull in West Midlands when I was 5
Moved to Sheffield when I was 24
Moved to Ongar in Esex when I was 26
Moved to Shenfield in Essex when I was 40
Moved to Crawley Down in West Sussex when I was 43
Moved to Horsham in West Sussex when I was 45
Moved to Ifold in West Sussex when I was 53, where I remain (for now)!).

My Mum says that she had to buy a new address book because of me!

I have lived within the same 3 miles of Hounslow (West London) for 30 of 31 years of my life. Under the age of 1 I lived in north london but obviously have no recollection.

Hence very much London born and West London bred.

So to answer your question for 96% of my life (all of my knowing life) I've lived in the same place which is why my brother and I really want to move out of London now.

Born down here on IOW - moved to Rochester in Kent in 1974 , across the country to a village near Glastonbury in 1978 , up to the Vale of Evesham in 1982 and back to the Island in 1985 where I've stayed albeit have commuted to London ( 4 years ) and Winchester ( 3 years ) .

PITA to visit family and friends off the Island but still worth it to live here :D

I know Lezant, went to look at a house there a while back. I'm in Saltash, handy for work in the Dockyard. A Local guy does all my basic servicing he's ex BMW and set up on his own about five years ago. But for Ins 1 & 2 I went over the Bridge and will probably head up to Exeter for the next Ins1, never going back to Ocean BMW.

Like buzyg, I'm currently living in my 22nd home, well okay I'm currently in my 21st home with my 22nd being the one in Bristol. Unlike busyg it's not because my parents bought/renovated/sold properties nor were they in the services. I've moved 13 times since leaving home at nineteen to go to Uni. Born in Loose, Kent (yeah I'm a Loose woman :D ) but after 23 years in Yorkshire this is where my heart calls home

My parents married in Sheffield in 1965 and immediately moved to Sweden. My father was a Professional Golfer and took a position in Linkoping where I was born in 1966. My sister was born there in 1969. We moved back to Sheffield in 1972 and later that year to Southport, Lancashire. Lived there until meeting my second wife in Stockport, Cheshire in 2003. Have since lived in Bramhall, Holmeswood and now Mawdesley, Lancashire since 2013. We love it here and are only 10 miles from my mother and sister in Southport. Looking at buying a place down Cornwall way around St Just and retiring there as and when finances allow.

John where in the PD are you, as I am only in Dronfield and am always out and about in the PD and the only black E89 I have ever seen apart from mine is a 18i in Baslow that lives there ?

Oh and to add the the thread, born in Sheffield and moved to Dronfield so about 4 miles :)

One good thing about driving in the PD is that it sharpens up the old reactions trying to avoid all the potholes ....

Born in Manchester and stayed until i was 26
Live in Ripley Derbyshire now, always felt at though I would end up in Derbyshire strangely (Mum is from Chesterfield)

"Scaley Brat" here - a term children of RAF personnel were known by. Born in the UK, but left shortly afterwards to live all over the world (Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Cyprus, & Germany) . Returned to the UK in '82 to go to University, then worked in UK for a few years before joining the RAF. After more travelling around, left in '99 and now work for consultancy companies travelling all over the world on business, usually setting up a short term residence. On average, I've moved house/home every 2 years of my life... so definitely nothing like a local lad :)

Born & brought up in rural Lincolnshire around Grimsby (Guy Martins neck of the woods), moved around a bit in my twenties, Scunny, Leicester & surrounding areas. Moved up to Beverley, East Yorks in my late twenties where I met & married the current Mrs Stu. Still here aged 46 - I love East & North Yorkshire, a stunning coastline
