Are you a proper local?

Thanks for the posts so far guys and gals, as I thought there's a lot of people moved around a lot, and for some very interesting reasons.

John where in the PD are you, as I am only in Dronfield and am always out and about in the PD and the only black E89 I have ever seen apart from mine is a 18i in Baslow that lives there ?

Oh and to add the the thread, born in Sheffield and moved to Dronfield so about 4 miles :)

One good thing about driving in the PD is that it sharpens up the old reactions trying to avoid all the potholes ....

Hi ric,

I'm in Baslow myself, I know the E89 you mean, there's also a mint black E85 parked by some houses on the way to Chatsworth.

I know Dronfield well, used to have a pint in the Blue stoops, lived with a girl there on and off I met at the Woodlands gym. Which part are you in? It's a deceptively big place is'nt it.

Born in Reading, we moved to High Wycombe when I was 1/2 year old, then moved to Stokenchurch (5 miles up the road) and have lived here for over 30 years.

Born in North Woolwich London, but grew up in the East End, Hackney, Clapton and then Wanstead.

Moved to a village just south of Northampton in 1993, like it here

John-e89

In Hillside, so just up over the bridge over the bypass and I'm in the countryside, yeah I'm a big fan of Dronny as I lived in Eckington for 20 years and it's far nicer, we'll have to meet up for a black E89 pint, yes I know the e85 you are talking about its near those cottages on the right..

Stoops are currently shut but there's talk of a big chain taking it over soon, I usually go to the dragon and the manor and somewhere you probably don't know called JD'S lounge where they have mostly crap bands on

Was born in the Burbs of Manchester...

Now live in a small village in the High peak for last 10 years..

I wouldnt move our of the village... Its a great place to be..

I live in Torksey Lock near Lincoln. Have lived on the same piece of property since we got wed in 1980, I moved from 2 miles down the road and my wife moved about 300 yards from just around the corner. Only other place I might spend time is at our villa in Kissimmee, Florida. :D

Tony.

I grew up in Oldham (which doesn't have many positives) and moved 5 years ago 25 miles up the road, to a 5 minute walk from my work place.

The commute was getting stressful and taking up a lot of my time and money on fuel.

Where I am now gets me a 5 minute train ride into Manchester City Centre and 5 minutes drive from the M60 and M6, 10 minutes drive from the M56, so easy enough to get anywhere :)

Military Brat here so I kind of look at your post with a hint of jealousy. I have lived in so many houses and not all in the same country.

Born in Wakefield, family moved Wolverhampton when I was a kid. University at Manchester for 5 years, then 2 years oil industry in Libya. Short spell back in Wolverhampton then Leicestershire for the last 30 odd years, interrupted halfway through by 1 year secondment to Cincinnati USA.

Consider myself a Leicestershire lad now, come on you Foxes!

Born London, then at six weeks old...

Gt Bookham, Surrey 20 years
Newcastle on Tyne, 3 years (Uni)
Oxford, 1 year
Hull, 6 years
York, 1 year
Huntingdon, 4 years
Gt Chesterford Essex, 15 years
Wimbish Essex, 6 years
Saffron Walden, Essex 4 years

... think that's it. Counts fingers. Yep.

So i'm a nowhere-in-particular-but-more-Essex-than-anywhere-else kind of person.

Numerous local moves around Durham renovating houses and moving on then met my wife and moved for her career , lived in Harrogate ,cashed in and did the living in the sun bit while we were young , tried Spain for a few months , lived in France a couple of years , we got bored and she re started her career so we moved to Liverpool then over the water to the wirral .I did build another house in France next door to where we lived just Iin case we want to retire there though !

Having only lived in 3 homes throughout my life (31 years) the last of which has been 22 years and the first under a year...

I have a question for all those who have moved around a lot. Question is how much have you paid to the government, lawyers, estate agents etc throughout all the moves and why all the moves?

Purely profit for me , I've paid a small fortune in fees but I've always accounted for it , it's 5k in fees to buy and sell a house these days

Born and bred in Ayrshire, in bonnie Scotland.... Lived in a few different houses, but never more then 15-20mins from my 1st childhood home

Why? - combination of necessity due to career moves and also improvement of living standards.
Cost? - no immediate idea, but very much less than increase in capital.

Lived in West Ewell (near Epsom) for the first 19 years of my life.

Father had a stroke and had to go into a nursing home, so Mother bought a flat in Sutton. Was there 5 years but the maintenance charges doubled so time to go!

Moved to Worcester Park, then 2 years later I left home and moved to Woking in 1985.

Changed job and moved to Ash (Near Aldershot) in 1988.

Changed job and moved to Stroud in 1991.

Made redundant, so changed job again and moved to Sittingbourne in 1993.

Changed jobs again and moved back to Sutton in 1996.

Employer moved from Victoria in London to Windsor, so had a company relocation to Egham in 2000.

Got married so moved to a bigger house in Sandhurst in 2005.

Commute was painful, so moved to a new house in Binfield in 2007.

Separated from the Mrs so I moved back to Sandhurst in 2011 (she went back to Cheshire) and I'm still here for now!

Might have made more sense to have a camper van, but I'm hoping my next move will be my last!

Born in Ormskirk – market town in Lancashire, grew up in Maghull (Liverpool suburb). Married and climbed the property ladder – over 20 years bought houses in Lydiate, Ormskirk, Southport, and ended up in a lovely property in the country in semi-rural Tarleton, Lancashire.
Divorced in 2009 lost house, and now rent a Victorian flat in Preston with lady Marlon. Don’t consider myself a proper local, I suppose I’m local to North West England/ Lancashire.

Moved to Witbank, S. Africa for 2 years

Returned to Leamington Spa and have lived here ever since. I think I'm a genuine local.
We used to say we were all industrial gypsy's but now that's a racialist word, can no longer use it.

Ok Born in Congleton , Cheshire and my years up to the age of 18 were spent in about 5 different Cheshire towns and Villages, due to my Father being a local Bobby so we would move between Village Police Houses . So I'm pretty local to South Cheshire with the rest of the family all being there.

Since then for me its been :

- Sheffield for 3 years of University
- Lyon, France for one year of exchange
- Back to Sheffield for my masters Year
- Then for my first Job it was Middlesborough and then Derby for the first Years.

After that the Scottish Adventure started in 1998 and I lived in various parts of the City and Shire as we've moved up the property ladder - I also spent a brilliant 3 years living in South West France during this period so my french is pretty fluent. My wife is local to Aberdeenshire so this will be the base from now on- although some time back in France appeals.

Although based in Aberdeenshire, my work has meant i've spent considerable periods in Europe, North America the Middle East and West Africa.

I feel very lucky to have a local stable grounding in one part of the world but had the opportunity to work with people from around the world .
