Are Warranties Essential?

Let us know how you do I'd be very interested especially with the springs and HVA issue looming.

Phoned Mondial (BMW Insured warranty today) They do not insist on a vehicle inspection at point of sale. They simply ask you has the vehicle got a full service history. This means serviced at a BMW dealership or serviced to BMW standards using only genuine parts at an Independent. They take your word on this but if you make a warranty claim and it turns out this is untrue your warranty is void.

They then also insist the vehicle is serviced by a BMW dealership or BMW Approved workshop whilst the warranty is in force. They will ask for the current mileage on commencement of cover and the warranty will only begin after a month.

The warranty does not cover wear and tear parts such as hoses, brake linings, friction parts etc.

Interesting I will have to check if the previous service (by an indi) on the car Im looking at qualifies.

Im wondering if its worth going for the M now just to avoid the HVA issue..

I have just gone past the first full year with no warranty so £1000 plus the £400 saved on a non dealer inspection II up. Not counting chickens but it's all about your willingness to accept the risk of not having the warranty.

I'm considering cancelling mine...I pay about a grand a year and i've only had minor things go wrong! hasn't covered the cost of warranty! And tbh, the big things; clutch and gbox aren't covered so....is it really worth me keeping it on! I also have Insp2 in 4k miles and not sure what to do on that front...May just go indi and bin the warranty.

Thought I would update this having started the thread when I was looking and subsequently have brought an M.

I finally managed to find one with the balance of the BMW extended warranty on the monthly scheme and i renewed the annual warranty one purchasing the car. Due to age and mileage the warranty cost me just shy of £950 for the year...

Within one month of owning the car the sat nav screen started sticking and I took it to BMW Thames Ditton who said as the car wasn't recording a fault they wouldn't fix under warranty. For the next three weeks I filmed the screen every time I shut it down and then went to Heathrow BMW with the footage and they were great and replaced the whole system under warranty to the tune of over £2000. So for all those posters out there who convinced me warranties are essential a big thanks as they really are !!!

I had the same issue - they replaced something at a crazy cost as well. But at least the end customer was happy! :)
