Hi all,as above -are the cats solely on the manifold going down?-as i have had this part replaced less than two years ago-thanks

Did bmw replace?

If so did they do under warranty. If not then the part is under warranty for two years.

I thoght cat's are just under your seat not on manifold???? who is pulling your plonker?? :o

worth checking the warranty then. Parts should be covered still for 2 years if they are genuine BMW.

yes, theres another cat in the front half of the exhaust

Andy, there is only one cat if you look at all the OEM sections of the exhaust.

I have been told today by BMW technician that there are 2 on the manifold downpipes?-i can now see the big one halfway down the pipe aswell.

My mistake, was just looking at the pics

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BZ12&mospid=48508&btnr=18_0602&hg=18&fg=10

where it doesn't show a cat, but the words do.

So what did you have replaced before?

It's a little peculiar that you've had three cats fail when few if any of the regular posters here have reported cat problems. I wonder if it's an artefact of your driving style - maybe lots of short journeys of something similar - or perhaps a knock on effect of unburned fuel entering the exhaust system due to another issue... :?

AFAIK, there are two on the down pipes, and two in the centre section on US models, but only the two centre ones on UK models.

Do you mean the 2 on the manifold downpipes?
I was referring specifically to the ///M in my initial answer.

For non-///Ms, the US have the two small ones on the manifolds, plus two in the centre. The EU/UK ones only have the manifold ones.

For the ///M, the US one has the two on the manifolds plus two in he centre of the system. The EU/UK ones only have the centre ones.

Thanks mate, its just that slick posted on this thread with a diagram of a cat halfway down the pipe(non m uk model 2.0)
