Are newer 108's different?

Ok I picked up a second set of 108's in need of a refurb, removed the bolts = dead arm

The fronts split easily, bolts out, a couple of taps and they split. The rears refuse to split, i have tapped them from behind/ even mounted the edges with bricks and stood inside them :o

The front the nitromers dissolved the lacquer easily.... but on the rears.... they are coated in some sort of plastic not lacquer. Nitromers didnt do much impact on them, and i used a stanley knife to peel the plastic coating off from the inside of the wheels as they had a film of water between the plastic and the metal.... and it came off in strips... so i will need to sand these with my dremel i guess.

Any ideas on how i can split the rears though? They dont look to have been refurbished before as they have (or had before they corroded) the original diamond cut finish on them.

i split a set of 108's with 2 of them needing a little "tickle" with a short piece of 3x2 & a lump hammer .
gently of course :)

Thanks very helpful.

I know mine were off a coupe so as suspected they are plastic coated, not lacquer. Nitrmors didnt make a dent on them.... ended up sanding them over the weekend!

Just need a another dry day to paint them up!

Also rubber mallet was the tool of the day in splitting them... one hard knock and they were apart!

I'm guessing there were refurbed before. I had three sets on my facelift, the original and two replacements sets from BMW all were the same with diamond turned inners and lacquered. A few peps had replacements with cream/grey inners though resulting in odd wheels on the car.

Last set I had was May 2010
