Arch clearance tips with coilovers

Hi all. Planning on fitting coil overs soon. Going for the JDM look so low'ish.

So, does anyone have any hints and tips about inner arch modifications and rolling that will help me squeeze wheels and tires in the arches a bit more?

Front you can't roll, but you can unclog the liner on the edge of the arch and tuck inside the bumper.

Rears, I cut the liner rolled the arch and lay dynamat and silicon to avoid rust. I then sprayed plastidip to cover it.

What wheels are you running? My old roadster was pretty low (-40mm) on OEM wheels and no scrubbing at all.

Good advice above

I've not had any arch mods done, not as low as I'd like but it does mean I can drive the car hard without worrying about rubbing.

Btw the reason for the rubbing I get are the Michelin pilot super sports as the have a rim protector so the tyre extends slightly unlike Neil's.

Neil what tyres you running bro?

My next set will be Goodyear assymetric 5 to avoid this in future.

I'm on a225/45 on a 9j and 255/40 on 10j, front and rear respectively.

Little in the way of rim protection but oh well.

You sure on the profile mate? Mine is 225/35 - 255/30

Matches the 108's in rolling radius and your tyre wall isn't so fat

I'm going to be running a set of 18 inch. 8.5 front with 215/40/18 and 9.5 rear with 235/35/18 for clearance.

NeilP yours looks to be as low as mine with FK springs so maybe another inch..... Or two....... Or three

For those sizes you can run 225/45 and 255/40

No need for skinnier tyres

I have CSL's 8,5J and 9,5J (19") and 225 & 265 tyres
I had it lowered for about 40 with springs but after about 1000 kms, it will get even a little lower so I guess I was at -45 or -50mm
I had serious rubbing issues on my rears and fronts (but the latter was due to spacers), even with rolled arches. I'm now getting coilovers next weekend en for my next tyres I'll go for 255 in the rear...

Agreed, but for the purposes of going for the low JDM look I want to see a bit of stretch on the rubber.

Derp. It's 35/30 and on 19" (Lack of sleep starting to show :headbang: )

OP, you say JDM, but aside from the honda kids, it's a lot of meat on the tyre now!

Honestly, at those widths, you're not looking at much stretch at all.

It will drive like a turd mate. I had 235/35/19 on a 10'' wide wheel and it lost traction easily, was extremely hard and just looked crap...

I think I will go with 245/35/18 on the rear. The 255 just looks a little too straight for my liking.

Will take a look at the arches tomorrow to see how to cut them.

Unless you're planning on having some poke, your arches should be fine with a 245/35 tyre at the rear.

Hi Neil, just wondered do the X5 claws fit without any issues/modifications or excessive camber?
Not actually brought my Zed yet but like the look of the claws!

They fit fine with no issues. I needed a 10mm spacer on the front to clear the coilover adjusting collar. Unsure on a factory suspension setup.

Obviously you wouldn't be able to run balloon tyres either.
