Right I know a lot of you are dead keen on apple products so I'm looking for a little advice.

I've just taken the plunge and bought my first macbook (using it now), but we've had iPhones and iPads for a while.

I've used the macbook to make a little photo-movie and want to show it on my TV (Sony Bravia 2014 model). Naturally the TV and the Apple things won't talk to each other. Although I can stream music to the Sony sound bar thing easily.

what am I doing wrong - what else do I need. Really should be the simplest and cheapest solution, I just want to use iPhoto and iMovies on the TV screen

Hdmi cable will do the job?

Can I get HDMI to the mini apple connector on the iPhone 5 and iPad Air?
 
You can get a lightning adapter which you'll need for the iPad Air. It let's you connect the HDMI cable to it.
 
Just been looking on eBay at about £40 seems the norm. I'll keep looking

Hmmm, pricey... for an extra £39 you could have an Apple TV and then just use AirPlay :D

Once you have Apple TV and you have an up-to-date Macbook or Macbook-Air you will be able to mirror whats on your screen to the TV. You will need a spare HDMI on the TV you will be able to use airplay and bobs your uncle. also if you don't have an internet ready TV access to Youtube and Netflix is on the Apple TV.

TV has Netflix YouTube and other stuff built in, don't use any of it. Don't play games on PC or watch stuff. Sad I've got all this tech and don't use half of it. But the stuff I want to do isn't always as straight forward as it could be.
 
Or for a quarter of the price, you can use a Raspberry Pi to do the same (need a bit IT skills for that).
