apple

I use the Apple TV for the lounge connection for photo sharing and what Dario said. For a bedroom or other TV, the Raspberry skin software is far nicer and can stream anything from your media network and is programmable for Netflix, music streaming, spotify and so fort.

So what's Apple TV gen 1,2&3 all about?

Raspberry pi, sound fun but my days of coding are long gone!

ATV 3 are the newer ones that support 1080 hd. Atv2 supports 720. Atv's 1 & 2 can be jailbroken, 3's can't at present.

As long as your tv supports app's you can in stall Plex on it. It is a media sharing app you could try that first.

Or alternatively if you can connect an external hard disk or USB memory stick to your telly put your movies/pics on and watch that way.

Plex sounds like an idea as does the usb stick. Might give those a try later, thanks. Not something I'll do often so don't mind plugging in for the occasional use

Thanks

If you're not going to use an ATV to its potential it's daft buying one.
Plex is really good and will do what you want it to do.

Just had a look at the link, looks like a life style more than an app! They even have their own branded clothing. I'll give it a pop later I think

Thansk

The nice thing about ATV is that it "just works" out of the box. No set up etc, and you can mirror from your iPad, iPhone and Macbook. Its all over the Wifi, so anyone who is on it can stream to it.

I think it also has photo stream on it.

It does have photo stream too, and iTunes Match so all my music is ready to stream as well... if you have other Apple products it's a no-brainer for me, can't believe I didn't get it sooner. The set up was: plug into wall, plug into TV, touch iPhone to Apple TV & that's it, all WiFi settings, iCloud settings, photo stream, iTunes Match set up & ready to use

Hmmmm

Bought ATV from john lewis today. Massive disappointment. Set up was easy enough. But......

Two big issues... The on screen quality is terrible, sound distorted and on/off, pictures and movies are pixilated and jerky. The other is it just keeps tripping out, I get match ok, I can see my iphone/ipad on TV for a few seconds then all goes blank.

I'll have a fiddle tomorrow but thoroughly underwhelmed so far!

:( :(

Thanks fir the above. Some fiddling with the router and repositioning the ATV and all seems well know

Next is to get it to fill the whole TV screen!

That depends on the content you are playing.

Are the ATV menus full screen?

menus are full screen, IMovie plays full screen, I photos and normal screen mirroring isn't

Ok, so that is a content issue - not an ATV one then.

The content should have been formatted for 16:9, the ATV will take what it gets.

Do the photos appear on a laptop in 16:9 format?
