Apple Event - Sept 2014

I think there were so many cool concept designs floatng around that the final product just looks a bit boring. I would liked to have seen something different, maybe it looks better in the flesh. :(

Quite possibly does look better in the flesh. I always hate it when watches look deep, but my current watch is the same, but when on my wrist it doesn't, so I would like to see one. They didn't mention about battery life though...reckon it will need charging at least every few days, if not every day.

I don't know, I thnk it looks very cool integrating some pretty interesting tech in a body that hold the ergonomics of classic watch design. The Crown is a nice touch, so is the mag safe no contact charging. The whole implementation looks very well thought through, the sapphire display and the way it sits so perfectly the lines melt away classic apple design, I also think the way it reads your vitals and doubles as the mag safe is also cool.

In essence its actually a lot better than I thought it would be. Interesting concept.

With all the different accessories I think its very aesthetic and gives a lot of different moods without much effort! I particularly like the Blue Sport version, will be buying that with a metal strap to be a little more smart.

It will never replace you roli, tag, breit but for the everyday I wouldn't want to wear one, only for a special occasion. The apple watch fits the daily integration of everything you could need and a few you don't which could really help people. Monitoring health could help so many people and on a grand scale make you remove bad habits and make you realise well maybe I need to do more. I like that it ties in with your phone to aid quick communication, even down to the most basic of drawing.

Its the integration in the Apple ecosystem thats the draw, I know people find it limiting but as soon as you get over it and use the devices for the intended use instead of craving everything available in the tech world you start to enjoy the simplicity and ease of use. There is nothing on the market with the same sort of reliable integration. Especially if your someone who relies on the tech for your business like me, if you use it for strictly personal use then your thoughts will differ.

I just really hope they integrate the notification well. I get hundreds of notifications and would be an absolute pain having it vibrating every two seconds! Notifications look a little clunky in the presentation so hopefully that will improve.

Given the legendary fragility of Apple devices, perhaps something like this would help protect the screen...

...almost invisible in normal use....

I think they are pretty robust. Certainly my 5S and MacBook Air are. Very well put together. Far better than their Samsung or Windows equivalents.

When I said 'fragility', I was really thinking about how easily the screen breaks on iPhones - a survey report on CNet said that nearly a quarter of iPhones have a broken screen....

And they're releasing bigger versions - remember, the larger the screen, the easier it breaks...

Do they break easier than say a SamSung?
Samsungs glass is pretty indistrucable. It is the backs that are weak. Now if a manufacturer were to merge Samsungs glass with Apples casing.....

I use my watch all the time...not really meant to be on our phones at work, so at least I can see my emails and text messages on my watch when they come in......and yes I have once or twice answered calls on my watch when the phone has been in my bag, only in an emergency otherwise you look like a total twat!

Did they mention about it being water proof or so?

I think they did, or i read that it is somewhere.

I cant find the battery spec anywhere though.. no point getting it if it has to be charged nightly with my phone.

The only application i can see using the watch for would be the NFC and payments if that ever picks off.. just swipe your wrist to pay.

The back of the device is also the home of Apple's charging solution, which uses a MagSafe with inductive charging. The user will not have to worry about exposed contacts or aligning the charger properly. Apple has declined to comment on battery life at this point.

The fanciest model, the gold Apple [Watch] Edition, comes in a gorgeous jewelry box — which doubles as a charger. The back of the box has a Lightning connector, and the inside of the box has the watch’s magnetic round charger pad, standing vertically. So as you retire each night, you can just lay your gold watch into its case and let it charge
....
The watch is water resistant, allowing users to not worry about the device when in the rain, or washing hands. However, the watch must be taken off before going for a swim or taking a shower.
....
Additionally, the watch includes a microphone that can allow users to make calls directly from their Apple Watch.

Oh, I don't know about that. This is a fine tuning exercise of exisiting future tech that perhaps hasn't quite worked en masse ('early' tablets' anyone?) and there will be a definite target market for these things; just as there is for say, music, clothing and advertising. I at the very least applaud the notion of providing improved ways to answer the questions 21st century people are asking in their day to day lives.

Then of course there will be the geeks that want to recapture a small part of what they yearned to be real in their youth - like me

Nothing stopping you getting a Hoff perm if that's what you've yearned for....

I think the watch is a great product.

Like with Cameras, watch sales are starting to fall, as more people use their phones for a watch. I certainly do.

The watch will become a core product.

My Samsung Gear lets me view texts and emails. Send texts message by voice control. I can check the weather, take a pic if I need to, control my music on my phone without getting my phone out of my pocket.....

Def a benefit to me with it on......look what people said about smartphones 5 years ago.......

So who will pre-order the new phone tonight? I am up most nights late anyway, and I'm eligible for an upgrade with 3 mobile at the moment.

Just sold my iPhone 5 16GB for £185 to envirophone, should hopefully cover the upgrade cost.

Just depends if the contract prices are increasing also.....Wait and see i suppose :)
