Let's hope an enterprising hardware developer sees this huge opportunity and it is technically possible to out at least audio out via a 3rd party adapter
Or is this Apple pushing us towards bluetooth ( as in the new Nano ).

Looks like I will have to dig out my A2DP receiver again :cry:
 
The adapter should be free, and any additional ones required should be at a fare price.

If the audio isn't output from the adapter, that is one very bad mistake from apple.

So does that mean it's the 3.5 aux or Bluetooth only for playing audio out of the thing?

I asked our technical director about and he seemed to think that it would work with the adaptor. It sounds to me like the audio and video connections have been removed from that connection all together.

Can't see them selling many adapters if they only enable you to use an old connection for data and charging only.

That adapter thing is very odd. Surely they don't expect people to invest in all new docks, existing car kits won't work etc etc. They can't be that short sighted, can they?
 
Well I'm the biggest apple fan but not supporting video/audio output is "one bad apple". Shocking.

I'm even tempted to check out the competition.

Seems iPod Out is an iDevice control mechanism as in controlling the iPod adapter which connects in place of Multichanger in E85/86

So hopefully audio streaming out is OK
 
I admit £25 for the adaptor is a bit steep but the only time I use the dock is to charge my iPhone, to sync it I use wifi and for music I use AirPlay, or I use it as the remote for my apple tvs.
So changing the dock will make no difference to me at all lol I love how apple have thunderbolt and lighting connections now :D

I can't wait to upgrade my 3GS for the iPhone 5 :lol:
 
I have two Bose SoundDocks, a Pure Avanti Flow, my daughters have Pure DAB's with iPod docks as alarm clocks. Both cars have iPod kits in, one is a very expensive factory fit as part of a touch screen nav unit.

Sadly, if there is no available adapter that will support music, I won't be upgrading either to a new iPod, or a new iPhone.
