That BBC article was very well written indeed and very true. The iPhone isnt an innovation anymore, its seen as a fashion accessory and a status symbol. Those who own them look down on the S3 owners and other Android owners that they cant afford an iPhone (really they do!) and thats why they have gone for Android.
Never seem much of a price difference between the Apple/HTC/Samsung phones of similar spec, and chose an iPhone 4S to replace my aged SonyEricsson K800i (which did everything I needed for about 5 years).
Maybe it's not iPhone owners looking down on non-iPhone owners - maybe some non-iPhone owners are just paranoid or are maybe trying to justify the fact that they've bought the wrong phone for them?

Every year an iPhone comes out I read with interest and see what Apple have come up with this time. If its worth buying, i'll get one, but not one iPhone has had anything more spectacular than any other phone (apart from the high price).
I think you read it with interest, not to find out what's new, but to see what's the same, and use as ammunition in you anti-Apple war!

I waited for the 4 to come out (and the 4s) and considered changing my phone, but didnt. Why? Because my 2 year old HTC Desire still does more than the iPhone4! Voice controls have been on Android for years, I can happily ask my phone what the weather will be like tomorrow and it tells me - I didnt need Siri - which lets not forget is still only a Beta in the UK!!!
My 5 year old K800i did everything I wanted at the time, but it became unreliable and I decided to swap it. At the time I went into the decision process with an open mind, and tried lots of my friend's phones (HTC/Samsung/Sony/Apple), and I settled on the Apple as it was the only one that didn't CRASH during testing. Voice recognition on anything (phone, sat-nav, etc.) is just a gimmick and is useless in the Z4 at motorway speeds.

Plus I hate Apple's ethics - they have to to control everything. Any competition they have to sue them. They seem to forget Palm and HTC were making touch screen phones years before Apple jumped on the bandwagon!!! And they stuff they sue over, even the way a screen "bounces" as you scroll it - like kids bickering.
Sorry, but you don't seem to understand competition, intellectual property rights, or the processes you have to go through to protect them. I'm not going to bother explaining them to you - but put simply, if you fail to challenge infractions then it becomes harder to assert those rights at a later date. Microsoft does it, Xerox does it, BMW does it - please feel free to vent your spleen equally against them all!

I still havent changed my phone after 2 years - i'm happy having a phone I can customise to my hearts content, I dont want Apple telling me what i should and shouldnt do. If i want ot change my keyboard I can, or change the text messaging application I can, or send files via Bluetooth, I can. I can also use adaptors and power leads from other Android devices (and I believe Windows now) as manufacturers standardise on the mini USB socket (except Apple of course who like to sell £25 adaptors to their sucker customers).
Good for you. You are happy with what you've got and what it can do. So why do you feel you have to spend so much effort into telling people how poor something is that you've never used?

I havent got the S3 because I find the screen is too big. Many of my friends who have been Apple fans over the years have ditched their iPhone 4's and 4s's for the S3 and cant believe how much better it is. While earlier editions of Android may have been for the "geeks", Android 4 in particular is excellent.
So, Android phones were not good for normal users then, only good for geeks? Apple seems to be catering for the masses then!

I'm waiting to see what the iPhone5 will offer with great interest. Will be very interesting to see what it will offer over the S3 and other new smartphones. Granted the price will still be ludicrous, and granted there will still be morons queuing up for weeks to buy it. (Seriously, I think Apple could stick their logo on a turd and people would buy it).
But it's clear that you're not going in with an open mind, when you know there'll be nothing new, and you're calling everyone else a moron?

Plus lets not forget that after all the hype of this one and all the people who buy it (most of which are young adults who want something to show off to their mates) have got theirs on expensive 24 month contracts which they can hardly afford, that in 6 months time there will be the "this changes everything again, again, again" iPhone 5s.
So, more morons?

Edit : Also, lets not forget that Apple are making all this profit, yet they cant pay their Foxconn workers a decent salary, or give them decent accomodation to live in, and their solution to stopping suicides was to put up netting and mesh around the factory and on the windows.
Come on, be serious. I don't see you berating Samsung/HTC/ZTE/Huawei for doing EXACTLY the same thing with their suppliers.
Why should Apple pay for the employees of another company? If a contract is negotiated to supply parts/services at a set price, then it's up to the employer to ensure they can pay a decent wage - which is in general more than the average wage in the area - and is why so many people are queueing up for jobs at the Foxconn plant whenever there are job vacancies.
