Anyone not tried launch control yet?

So my car is over 3 years old now.. And not once in that time have I used launch control! Has anyone else (that has launch control) not used it?

I really need to give it a go soon!

Wow, you lot need to play with your buttons more... If only once ! It'd be one of the first things I would try - albeit very early in the morning on a long straight road with no other traffic

+1 on trying all the buttons :)

i did it and it was a surprise how much quicker it took off.

SO much so that i did a test on the performance change on the standing start.

All in all used it 6 time, with 2 of those times to do the test shown below.

Otherwise, i don't know why you would use it unless you were at Santa pod on the strip.

Funny that as I only said to my lad yesterday 'will have to try this launch control out' to which he responded "yeh and voice control, turning on sport plus and everything else you haven't bothered with" !!

Well I'm comy in pipe and slippers mode I retorted :D These young uns eh ??

I wasn't aware they had launch control on the E89.

When we test drove the new M5 the dealer told us how luanch control isn't something you'd want to use much as it isn't good for the engine/ clutch/ components (can't remember what exactly)... Any ideas if that is the case?

Its DCT equipped cars only. So 35i DCT or 35is.

As to the second question, Yes. But did you buy a powerful sports car to nanny it around all the time?

I'm sure that using the Launch Control on the E46 M3 caused the warranty on gearbox and clutch to be void... not sure if that is an urban myth!

Don't suppose your handbooks mention the use of Launch control and impact on components/warranty?

In a simialr vein, Nissan voided the warranty on the GTR if you use launch control more than X times in a month...

I guess it's down to the massive shock it puts on the drivetrain?!

I can understand a limit - sort of - but can't understand why you would put a function in a car that either voided the warranty or could break it mechanically ?

Surely it can't be any worse than planting the throttle and dropping the clutch. The shock goes through the system and the TC system will try and stop everything spinning!

When I bought mine and asked about LC I was advised not to 'over use' it and it should be fine , which in part is why I havent used it at all because as an answer it didnt fill me with confidence that it wouldnt break something
