Mine hasn't moved (under its own power) since November 2018, when it 'failed to proceed' on a road near the Nürburging (rod bearings).
Initial delay due to breakdown company agreeing and then refusing to repatriate the car from Germany (ombudsman agreed with my interpretation of the T&Cs), but that was 6 months later and I arrange to recover it at my own cost.
Then I spent a few months deciding whether to:
- strip the car for parts
- completely rebuild/upgrade the engine
- swap out the engine
I decided to search for a low mileage S54 engine, and thought I'd found one until the (business) seller started saying it was a private sale, no warranty, can't be heard running, no service history, etc.
I then spent a few more months finding another, and luckily found a Z4MC S54 (slight differences in wiring loom to the M3 S54) but got the full engine and ancillaries for the same price as the other engine I'd looked at (from a business, with a 3 month warranty).
Unfortunately, during this time my mechanic got seriously ill, hospitalised, multiple rounds of surgery & recovery, and months of recuperation. Then COVID happened just as he was about to start working again...and he's in a very high risk group so can't leave the house.
...that's where it still is, and he's had no information on when he's getting the jab, so that's where it will stay for a while.
So I'm happily driving around in a 320D M-Sport Touring (ordered with the M-Performance BBK)...and those who went on Craig's NC500 run a in 2019 will tell you it can keep up nicely with the hairdressers in Z4 roadsters - whilst still delivering 45mpg
