Anyone else's Z just sitting...?

So I've been thinking when I should have been working, that the last time I drove my Z was Christmas Eve to get new tyres..

Before that it hadn't gone anywhere for weeks. I need to drop off some food to the folks today and for the first time will get the Z out (if it will start).

Anyone else's Z not moved for more than a month?

Mine hasn't moved (under its own power) since November 2018, when it 'failed to proceed' on a road near the Nürburging (rod bearings).

Initial delay due to breakdown company agreeing and then refusing to repatriate the car from Germany (ombudsman agreed with my interpretation of the T&Cs), but that was 6 months later and I arrange to recover it at my own cost.

Then I spent a few months deciding whether to:
  1. strip the car for parts
  2. completely rebuild/upgrade the engine
  3. swap out the engine
I decided to search for a low mileage S54 engine, and thought I'd found one until the (business) seller started saying it was a private sale, no warranty, can't be heard running, no service history, etc.

I then spent a few more months finding another, and luckily found a Z4MC S54 (slight differences in wiring loom to the M3 S54) but got the full engine and ancillaries for the same price as the other engine I'd looked at (from a business, with a 3 month warranty).

Unfortunately, during this time my mechanic got seriously ill, hospitalised, multiple rounds of surgery & recovery, and months of recuperation. Then COVID happened just as he was about to start working again...and he's in a very high risk group so can't leave the house.

...that's where it still is, and he's had no information on when he's getting the jab, so that's where it will stay for a while.

So I'm happily driving around in a 320D M-Sport Touring (ordered with the M-Performance BBK)...and those who went on Craig's NC500 run a in 2019 will tell you it can keep up nicely with the hairdressers in Z4 roadsters - whilst still delivering 45mpg :poke:

My daily hasnt moved since jan 11th ( hospital appointment). Brief journey planned tomorrow (wife is getting the jab) but then after that, probably isnt going to move til mid march.

Done a massive 20 miles in 3 months.

And that was one early morning before all the salt got thrown on the road and really only to give the battery a boost and warm the insides up.
The boot area had the start of mould on the floor so gave that a decent clean up. Certainly spent more time washing than driving it. Wish I'd SORN'd it in November but with the continuing lockdown I think I'll do it now as it's going nowhere in Feb at least

Since early November it’s not done more than 40/50 miles since then.

I’ve used it every 4 weeks for essential journeys which gets it up to temp and keeps everything freed off. On a trickle charger when not being used

Don't worry, you are not alone.
Mine is like that when winter started:

My daily is Mini One, so Z4 has occasional startup - every few days, where I leave him to rise to the engine operating and I drive him if there is a dry day with dry roads.

I left him on summer tyres, and I don't want to drive him during the winter as they are putting a lot of garbage on the road against ice and it just damages the car.

Mine has been SORN since Oct and will stay that way until Apr/May depending on COVID and the weather. My daily run around (Audi TT Mk1)isn’t clocking up many miles with all this working at home and the very occasional trip to the office, so I am taking it for a 20 mile run every weekend.

I just bought a trickle charger for mine. I've been trying to drive it at least weekly but often the weather is so poor I'd rather leave it in the garage. Toying with the idea of SORNing it and buying a little runaround...

try to get it out once or twice a month even if its just a run to work to keep things moving, probably sorn it next year though as may as well save the tax paid out for something else :(

Hasn't moved since October 31st (motor tax expiry), yet still managed to burn through 1/4 tank of petrol since then, starting it each week to keep things ticking over. New battery fitted since then as well. It's cost me more (on a € per km traveled basis) since I SORN'd it, than when it was being driven regularly! Only 2 more months to go until it's unleashed again....

Mine having a trip out for it's Mot tomorrow. Just been out and checked her over. Lights, wipers horn etc. It's 17 years old this year and only ever failed one Mot and that was for Headlight aim was too low. Two Advisory's one for tyres and another for brake pads wearing thin. Fingers crossed for tomorrow then

Once a week I try to find a good excuse to go get milk from a shop far enough away to ensure the engine gets up to temp.

Goes out about once a week depending on the weather. Fortunately, We haven't had much in the way of snow here and I have a legitimate reason for going out.

The roadster has not moved since early November and is tucked away in the garage under its indoor cover and sucking on its trickle charger.

The coupe is being moved just 1 to 2 times a month, now that my daily commute is skipped due to COVID-19. In essence just being used for non-family trips now (family trips carried out per Volvo, as per the wife's ruling).

Did an official insurance "withdrawn from use" since 1 January. It is still covered with comprehensive insurance (fire, thief, tree falls on garage etc.) but should I foolishly take it on the road and have an accident...I would not be covered. I can reinstate the insurance anytime I wish with just a phone call.

Of course withdrawing it from service saves me money and I don't care to expose it to road salt, brine or whatever other garbage the state decides to throw on the roads.

Well mine hadn'd moved for quite a few weeks. But the sun came out and dried the road after three days of heavy rain had washed all the cr#p away. So I made a point of driving it's to Tesco and back for a tank of Super, last week :D

Too be honest though, I barley warmed the engine up and now I have a full tank of fuel I have to somehow burn through.

Feels like mine has hardly moved in two years or so. Wet winter, lockdowns and what not last summer, and a very wet year before. The other half actually asked me this week if I forget that I have it, as she had :? :tumbleweed: Hopefully we get a nice spring!

Ventured to BMW for its first service on the 19th of Jan.
Apart from that, I think it was sometime early December since it has been out.

It’s a February 2019 car and has a whopping 3750 miles on it now.

It’s clean and on the trickle charger in the garage.
