Anyone else worried about Lewis?

If I were the head of a multi-million enterprise where my own money and success were riding on the accumulation of points in a season and the decision making of Max Verstappen, I think I'd prefer a much safer pair of hands.

Verstappen on pole for tomorrow.......just saying sir.....

I gather it's not a track for overtaking . So let us hope he can keep it together, should Lewis be able to put some pressure on him during the race.

It’s all just noise.....put Verstappen in the sister Merc......let’s see what him and Hammy are made of...

Nah, Put Rustle in it. Pretty sure he would be more of a complete driver, in that car, than Fast Mad Max could ever be. Much as I love watching him drive and seeing his genius and speed, I don't believe he will ever be the complete driver that Hammy is. I do hope he gets opportunity to prove me either right or wrong though. Tomorrow is certainly one he needs to win.

He doesn’t ‘Need’ to win anything Buzy....he’s hardly under pressure form his team that are desperate to keep him...! Apart from Alonso in 2007 when the Spaniard had a year long spat with Ron Dennis which affected his season when has Hammy had a credible team mate..? Rosberg ran him the closet and beat him fair and square in 2016, although in doing so he couldn’t keep that level of performance up and so quit, and forget car break downs as over the time they both were at Merc together Rosberg had the highest number of car failures. Verstappen is a pain in Red Bulls side in so much as they cannot put a driver in the sister car that can get even close to Max, he outperforms them on a consistent level, just as Hammy does most of the time. Bottas has got him a few times, Rosberg did much better, would you put either driver in the level of greats...? No one in their right mind would, yet both have run Hammy to the edge on several occasions, when had anyone done that to Verstappen...? All Red Bull do is flick drivers around to try their best to get someone to run him close, hasn’t happened yet, he annihilates his team mates. He’s been in F1 at least 12yrs less than Hammy and is this good already....we forget how young he is. As I say put him him the same equipment as Hammy and let’s see how good the Brit is against real opposition.

I'm not so sure - Daniel Ricciardo performed better than Max from time to time!

Based on his performance last Sunday I'd like to see 3 Mercs with Lewis, Max and George Russell in them for entertainment value even though I know it would never happen.

But "Rosberg ran him the closet" conjures up images I don't want to imagine.

Was very surprised LH didn't get VB moved out of the way.
However, here's a radical thought...... VB only beat MV to second place in the standings by 9 points. If LH had passed him that would have reduced, and given VBs recent propensity for falling back I wonder if they had a plan in place to keep him safe?
Just a thought.

What makes you think Hamilton was faster than Bottas? That's not the race I saw.

If you listen to it live on the BBC website at the same time you get a lot more radio messages etc. It was pretty evident that Bottas could not maintain the pace of Verstappen, whereas Hamilton could catch up and back off at will, only holding the 2-3 second gap to reduce the aero effects and look after his tyres. Twice Hamilton clearly asked the team if Bottas had a problem? I'm sure he knew he didn't, just making it clear he could be quicker.
Towards the end, when Albon got a bit faster, Hamilton opened the gap to Bottas. This would have made it harder for Albon to catch Bottas, even if he could have got past Hamilton.
I don't believe Hamilton could have got past Verstappen, so there was no point really in him swapping places with Bottas. A couple of extra points and a second place that is quickly forgotten, would have been outweighed by Bottas slipping back and losing Merc's season 1-2.
It's only a passing thought though.
But I remain convinced that Hamilton would not have dropped back from Verstappen the way Bottas did.

I was surprised Lewis turned up / was allowed to turn up. How do you go from well, to having Covid 19, to well again in a fortnight. :?

Totally agree. Merc wanted to ensure Bottas finished 2nd in the Driver's Championship. They didn't stress their engines to ensure their cars finished the race, hence the apparent performance improvement of Verstappen's car this weekend. Note the Qualifying time in 2019 by Lewis was 1:34.779 whereas Verstappen's qualifying time on Saturday was 1:35.246 when his 2019 qualifying time was 1:35.139

Lewis drove as Bottas' "wingman" to ensure that nobody could attack Bottas during the race. Job done.
