Anyone else worried about Lewis?

Tbh op... hes a young mixed race male, like myself..... We have our own style, alittle risky, alittle "rap" just us really..... he's not gay us young black dudes just push the boundries with ear rings , bling etc. its not everyones taste but he's just able to do more than most with his income, respect i say......

strangest thread I've read on here for a long long time.

Us white guys are just too worried about what others might think of us.

I have a lot of mixed race/Asian mates and they always rip me proper for being way too conservative

I love Lewis. He's loving life and enjoying his career. I only wish I could be him

Hang on a sec. Don't we all drive Z4's? Most of which are convertibles. According to most people, these are the gayest cars around

I can just see Graham Norton in yours.........the Zed I mean. :)

Well having watched today's emphatic win, I'm even less worried about Lewis now. Didn't seem too distracted by life to batter the rest of the feild.

Bloody hairdressers.

For what it's worth, I think he's built up his brand well enough to match his performance on the track.

Just cos the fella likes to dress different from the masses does not mean he is gay back in the 80s if any of you are old enough to remember those days I walked around in second hand Levi jeans with holes in a second hand 50s style leather jacket and a flat top hair cut plus 2 earings in my left ear it was a fashion/music scene I was into and as said above Lewis is still young but very talented I remember James Hunt getting slated for drinking and smoking after a race but that was all part of his character why is it in this country when someone is doing well in sport we like to slag them off instead of being happy we are winning for a change

Turn it around and . . . .

Given the media attention, success, adulation, expectations and pressure I think, as a relatively young man, he's doing remarkably well!

I understand what the OP meant - when i read the article it came across as meaning his image is less of a professional than it should be, which given his super rise to the peak of the sport, might be questionable.

Thats all. Whether he is gay or not wont make a difference to me and I hope to no one else.

The fact that he is pretty young and laden with cash might have an impact later on in his life.

I go from moments where I absolutely cannot stand the man/attitude, to moments where I think he's the most amazing driver in modern times (usually when up against the odds and negative press etc).

In other words I prefer him when he's fighting the odds and on the way to gaining success, but not when he actually gets it.

A bit like most Brits attitude towards successful people then

I'll say upfront that I'm a really, really big fan of Lewis both on and off the track. However, more than any other sportsman I can remember, he sometimes provokes those thoughts in me that thinks "what a prat" so I think that's where some of the antipathy comes from. I hate his tattoos and the diamond earrings but I'm rapidly becoming an old fart so what do I know?

I don't care if he's gay or straight. He's a great driver, is doing his bit to promote British fashion designers around the world and is always professional when he's at work. Let's face it, despite all the hoohah about his private life and the parties, no other driver can get close, including the rather more home-loving, family man Rosberg, who's no slouch himself but is being made to look like an amateur in the same equipment that Lewis has.

Lewis today can sometimes be what schumi was in his hayday...

That recent race (hungary was it?) where he ended up towards the back in the first laps.. i think lots of us in our heads said 'well, if anyones gona pull it back it's him', and i think that says a lot about his determination. iirc he finished 6th or something.

Granted - the cars do a lot of the talking at the moment, passing is pretty difficult for any driver unless you have raw performance to do it for you.

People who say he's a persistent moaner should watch more Motorsport. All the greats whinge often (Alonso for example consistently having 2nd best for several years, or even Button after his McLaren move) and it shows they have emotion and care for what they do/achieve. The drivers have to bear the burden of any of their/their teams failures to the viewing world, so 'letting down' many millions of people could be understandably upsetting. Would you rather them all be like Kimi?!

I also think he's unleashing himself suddenly because McLaren did exactly the opposite - put him on a leash. They didn't let him have an identity - told him what to wear, managed all his Website/PR etc. I am glad hes lost the massive gold chain though, that was just vulgar!

After attending several F1 races, i always find its Lewis doing the little things to amuse and entertain the crowd. Whether its showcasing super cars, doing signings or even burnouts after the race knowing full well he may be stung with a €10k fine (they have lifted this silly rule somewhat this year). He is also always the first to acknowledge and thank the fans which i now notice every race, which i find a very nice gesture.

So yeah i am a fan. But also of several other drivers :)

+1 on what EdButler said ^

I do have wry smile though on British GP day, there they are all are the 'British' drivers hugging the crowd draped in the national flag, then it's off home to tax haven Monaco etc post race. Alonso at least moved back to Spain a few years ago to put his taxes in the economy there.

Anyway that's bit of a jokey cynical view, don't want to start an argument. 8)
