Another washer jet problem with a difference.

Hi all.

Need some help on this. My drivers side head lamp washer jet is sticking up by about 3mm a bit like the pic on this link http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=23654&p=332620&hilit=jet+problem+a+bit+strange#p332620

However Ive poured warm water on it and it hasnt returned to normal. So I did a few tests today by removing the inner trim on the wheel arch and have found that they both are working but the drivers side one does not return to it's correct position. I then found that water is leaking from it also, as I can see through the access hole in the wheel arch. Its pouring from the top of the unit which i cant reach.

Im tempted to push the jet back down, but have also read this is not a good idea. So was wondering if I could pull it out to see if there is some sort of obstruction. But I dont know how to do it without breaking it. Has anyone done it without breaking it?

Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

Have a look at the following photos - they show how that part fits together, it may help you understand what the problem is...

I suspect that the ratchet circled in my second photo needs some adjustment - Dont think there is an easy way of doing that without removing the pump...

These photos are of a pump with the cover clip broken...

You may be able to do it through the wheel arch trim opening but I removed the bumper but I was replacing it because of the broke clip.. Dont forget that the cover is on the outside of the bumper...

Thats the exact problem i had with mine last year (in summer)... except it was sticking out by 1-2mm - enough to catch the microfibre when cleaning my car.

I pushed mine down.. only for it to return to that position after the washers had been used.

Took it to BMW who replaced the whole unit -including getting a new cap and spraying it!!

Hi am thinking of getting my leaking washer jet repaired when I take the z in for its oil service. Just wondered whether anyone who had the same problem as me and had theirs repaired by bmw and how much it costs? Was thinking of trying to do it myself but not sure I’m confident enough to pull off the front bumper. Plus not sure exactly where it's leaking from, but drains the whole reservoir in minutes.

Cheers

Just had this repaired on my Z4M under warantee, it could be either of the washer turrets leaking or the big hose that links them both to the washer pump. All three needed replacement on mine and they also had to replace the washer covers as they 'broke' when taking the bumper off....

Probably was not cheap but thankfully waranteed.
