Another 'too good to be true?' thread?

Actually you're exactly right, even if I were to take it any further, there's insufficient evidence to say he's not legitimate at this stage - obviously he isn't, but legally, well, he's not actually taken any money for anything yet...

Here are the follow up emails I received from him:

"Good morning Nathan,
I received a notification from gumtree in which they recommend using brokerage companies for distant transactions. The brokerage company they were talking about is Pay Point England and this is their website: http://www.ukautotraders.co.uk. I've spoke to my boss about this and he advised me to use this company as well because I don't want to take these days off and ... maybe come for nothing, I mean that there is a risk because if you don't show up my boss will not allow me to take another day off because I'm new here so, I must be covered somehow plus there will be some expenses with the road trip as well.
I have read their terms and I do think this is the best way for both of us since there is a long way and we both need to be sure we'll get what we want. You can read how an auto broker works here: http://www.ukautotraders.co.uk/howitworks.php . As soon as I arrive you can verify it at any inspection service you want and only if you decide to keep it, they will release the money to me so, I believe this is the safest way. With an intermediary company involved between us I can be sure that you will be coming at the meeting because it's a very long distance and I want to be 100% sure nothing unexpected comes up and I dont' want to drive all the way for nothing. Let me know your decision because there is another person who wants to buy it and I need to know which way to go as for their commission, I'm willing to cover it."

"Are you still interested in buying my car?
I'm willing to let it go for £3500 and we can use this brokerage company because I saw that gumtree recommends this brokerage company for a transaction like this. You can read some tips here at this link where I also saw the gumtree's recommendations:
http://www.gumtreeblog.com/auto-brokers.htm
I believe this is the safest way since we are so far from each other. Let me know what you think."

We can't be having his boss get angry with him now, can we?

Haha! Word for word the same as mine - just with a different website.

I've asked him to check the address I gave him...

I would say he has really. He is purporting to be the owner, or at least legally to act as owner, in order to sell a vehicle that we all know he doesn't own. A simple DVLA enquiry, or Police National Computer check would show he is not the owner of any of these cars. He is therefore committing 'fraud by false representation' which is indictable offence...

I have also been dealing with 'Adam Pawlak' recently - surprise surprise is seems to be a mirror image of everybody elses emails!

"Hi, my car is still available but the only issue is that I moved to Northern Ireland (Belfast) because I found a better job here. I am open to offers and the only reason I put it for sale is because I work in constructions and now I use a truck from work and this car is not useful to me anymore. If you like the car and if you want to buy it, I can take 2-3 days off from work in order to bring it to your address and close the deal. It has no accidents or mechanical problems and if you need more info about my car, just mention it. Forgot to mention, it has only 27,300 miles and the price is £9600
Cheers, Adam"

I was really intrigued and played along and sure enough he wants paying via a brokerage company due to the 'distant transaction'. The brokerage company he speaks about is called 'Royal Car Traders' and this is their website: www.royalcartrader.co.uk - I can only assume that this is also a con website masking the fact that the innocent buyers money goes straight into Pawlak's account.

Funnily enough I got a couple of emails sent from gumtree (or were they??) about secure payments for cars etc earlier today - reccommending the use of brokerage companies....maybe the work of Pawlak again??

DONT GET CAUGHT OUT!!!!

What does "Autotrader" do in the transaction then? Is it legit?

The more people that report this here https://reportlite.actionfraud.police.uk/ the better the chances that it will actioned, they collate reports and will pass them for investigation once the problem reaches thresholds.

Hi All

I haven't read the full thread so this link may be a repost!

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=3922917

this thread includes peoples experiences dealing with him, including mine!

I am currently £6000 down after trying to buy a Seat Ibiza Bocanegra and dealing with the police at the minute.

My advice - never pay any money unless its face to face!

After a little further research i have also found this.......

We too were scammed in August , same guy ,same story to the tune of 8000. Please could you all tell me if you were asked to pay your money into a Barclays account in Leicester. Thanks. Desperately trying to get our money back from the bank as I think they have been negigent in allowing fraudulent bank accounts to be continually opened and closed in that particular branch. The more info we can gather the better. Thanks

Hello I have unfortunately fallen for the autobroker website and have paid mr Polish fraudster 7300. I have appointment with the police tom and have informed barclays bank of the situation. I released the money on the 17 sept, and wish i had phoned police alot earlier, but they are very clever and have kept e mailing me that i will get a refund which has made me think all is ok, but alarm bells started to ring again and i have now read this site. To the lady that is going to try and persue barclays please let me know how you get on.
