Annoying traction control trait.

Well, took my Zed out for her first autocross today. What a blast! :D The F-1's did fantastic except for a tendency to push on really fast and tight turns. Stab the brakes to plant the front end and your off again.

Learned an interesting trait of the traction control. The track got pretty greasy in the afternoon so I left the TC on. What happens is when you come in to a hard turn, especially a carousel, (very tight 360 degree turn) and throttle hard out of the turn the TC shuts the engine down for about a full second. :headbang:
Stand on the throttle and there's nothing at all then it finally comes on and off you go.
Needless to say, this really doesn't help lap times.
Turning on DTC allowed more wheel spin but still cuts the engine back.
Tomorrow I'm running my slicks so no TC at all. Hopefully the ass end will stay where I put it!

And completely turn off the electronannies when you are doing something on a controlled track like this. They are not designed to help you get around an AutoX course - just traction challenged situations in normal driving.

This I already know.
Being my first BMW, and the first time with it on the Auto X course, I wanted to see how it behaved in the different modes under those conditions.
I did the same thing with my 06 Mustang GT. Just learning the car.
I think I might look for some adjustable sway bars next. Stock suspension allows quite a bit of body roll when you push it hard.

Thats more than your swaybars buddy! You're not going to calm that down much without touching the whole suspension. I'm guessing you don't have the sport package either, judging by the extreme roll. (you can't have been going that fast, its auto-x...)

PS> something about the Maldives "in action", looks very sick to me.

No, no sport suspension. It's my daily driver so I have no intention of turning it in to a track car. The adjustable sway bars (if I can find what I want) will give me a little better control and the ability to take some of the push out of it with the option to put it back to near stock so there's no sacrificing everyday ride quality. It's overall handling is good enough as is for everyday driving, weekend twisties fun, and the occasional auto x.
Top pic is the third in a series of slaloms spaced at 55ft then 45ft then 35ft so 35 mph or so, the bottom is an off camber left turn after a 45+ mph 2nd gear straight section then hard on the brakes, so around 25 mph when the shot was taken.
I have video so when I get a chance I'll post a clip of that run.
