your right sika is probably overkill but im loving/hating the stuff after using it and pop rivets to stick on the ali panels on the kit car. some of the racers in the know recon it will have helped with torsional strength?? i just know if you want something stuck down well then this will do it as those ali sheets were a sod to get off!

I can imagine! It is brilliant stuff but the way I see if with the headlights, you have to consider the fact that a halo may die or something so you want to make it as easy as possible to re-open!
I don't know what the little black thing is, it's sealed. I just assumed it was some sort of voltage regulator. I'll try unplugging a sidelight bulb at some point and see if the warning light comes on so that will tell us if it has cancelling resistors

I can imagine! It is brilliant stuff but the way I see if with the headlights, you have to consider the fact that a halo may die or something so you want to make it as easy as possible to re-open!

the small black thing is the constant current drive. it is just a part of the led circuit. i think i still need a resistor inline.

basically i want to remove the original side light bulb and replace it with a resistor. Dont have the coding knowledge and the tools so a resistor is the best option.

Sim .. i am curios if you have some photos with your headlights. if i keep the side bulb on ...and install AE ... how does it look? Can you even notice the bulb? ... because if if you cant really notice the bulb i will skik the resistor part and just wire the rings into the back of the bulb and thats it.

I've also considered doing this if I can get hold of another set of spare lights. I did something similar on my old car. Is it not possible to pop the lights in the oven and heat the glue to make it easier to release the lense?

Aside from that I tend to agree (as being new round here) it is often hard to follow how to's given the amount of posts in any particular thread. Even when it has been posted in the how to section. On another forum I'm committee on the how to section is locked down and a request has to come in for us or the moderators to upload the How to. It is then locked down so people can follow it without there being 100's of posts cluttering it up. If anything needs to be added at a later date then it can be unlocked and added to. Or if another thread is needed on the open forum to say better ways of doing it then so be it. Good information can always be transfered over at the request of the op or the club.

Whilst the above may or may not seem like a good idea it does require a level of work by moderators/administration. Personally I don't think there are enough moderators to cover the vast amount of members we have compared to a lot of other much smaller clubs.

Anyway we are again digressing keep us updated with how you get on and I'll have a look at the 100 page thread in the mean time

My headlights are different to yours and have a halo already with a sidelight bulb behind it to light the ring up. So with the ultra bright led rings in front of it you dont see any light from the original bulb at all. Wheras yours would probably be on show.

these headlights are different to most others. The glue doesn't melt and the outer casing doesn't soften. So no matter how hot you get it the glue still sticks and the casing stays brittle. So if you want to open one set without sacrificing another set then my method seems best

yeah even though the advice on here suggested that it can't be done I tried anyway to see if the headlight casing would soften with heat. Then you can fold back the lip and cut the glue out. This method works with corsa c headlights. But the plastic on the z4 lights doesn't soften so even if it's hot enough to start burning the plastic it will still snap when you try and fold it back lol
