Great work Perry bet you can't wait to have the first shower
Cindy has already called 'dibs' on that one... although, if I'm lucky, I might be able to sneak in there with her

Fingers crossed for you on that one. You must make sure you have the first Tom tit

I'm not sure I can hold out until Friday...

Looking very nice indeed... And your fitters keep a very tidy site

We had our old cast-iron soil pipe removed and replaced - the iron one went in the skip and, within about 15 minutes, some pikies were pulling it out and throwing it in their van to sell for scrap

Ha ha yes I have had the same experience with metallic items in a skip! What worries me is how quickly they observe the items and appear in your skip rooting around! They must be watching us 24/7! :?

The fitter says that they keep an eye out for new skips then do a daily or twice daily circuit past all the skips in their area pulling out any scrap

do your shower controls have a large square cover or something? strange for the tile to be cut like that and not circular drilled.
I asked the fitter about this and he said that it's done like this because the mixer valve mechanisms are all serviceable from the front by removing half-a-dozen screws. If they drilled holes for the control stems the tile would have to be broken away to gain access and, once on the wall, trying to do this is much more likely to cause cracks to propagate across the tile. The cover plate is sealed using a couple of thin beads of clear silicon, one around the recess in the tiles and one at the edge of the plate so that it can be removed by using a thin wire (like a cheese wire) to cut through the silicon.

Well it's the end of the 4th week and it's still not finished. They're making a lovely job of it, and the standard is as high as I expected, the fitter is going to come in for an extra day tomorrow and thinks he'll be finished on Tuesday - so another 3 days' work and it'll be done! :)

This week has seen...

All the main tiling completed and the installation of the low-level lights (to avoid that 'WTF!' feeling as your retinas burn out if you turn the lights on when going to the toilet in the middle of the night)
W4_1.jpg

Radiator alcove all tiled (before grouting)
W4_2.jpg

Feature wall (before grouting)
W4_3.jpg

New flooring laid and all white grouting done
W4_4.jpg

Radiator installed into alcove and feature wall grouted with grey grout
W4_5.jpg

Wall-hung toilet with glass tablet cistern installed
W4_6.jpg

And rough placement of new 1m wide sink and sink unit (subject to approval by SWMBO)

So it's all starting to come together and look like a bathroom again :)

It's all coming together rapidly now, the large shower cubicle fitted and it's only the mounting brackets for the pencil shower, cabinet, few accessories, final sealing and tidy-up to be done today

Glass is 10mm thick and feels so solid...

What an absolutely stunning job they've/you've made.

I personally would've gone for a light coloured flooring but nevertheless, it all looks fantastic and you can see it's a quality job.

I love the floor level lighting - that's genius, wish I'd thought of that when we had our bathroom done a couple of years ago

Thanks Ben,

I understand your point about the flooring, although it looks a fair bit darker in the photos than in real life. We decided on the deeper colour for the floor because, with all the white in the room, bathrooms can look a bit cold and we wanted it to feel warm and inviting.

Cheers Bing, it works quite well - the lights are small LED spots and the distribution box can handle up to 10 of them. The electrician has left a number of spares so that I can install extra if we feel we need them.

It's difficult to show how they look because the eye is so much better in low-light than a compact camera but the 3 lights seem to be plenty during the night
