Working from home as the bathroom fitters have started work today, we're having the bathroom ripped back to plaster (and brick in a lot of places where the plaster isn't sound) and rebuilt with a different layout.

We have a downstairs cloakroom with toilet and sink but, being an old house, it's our only bathroom so it's going to be a long 3-4 weeks of showers at work and relying on friends/family at the weekend

If anyone sees me in the street looking a bit disheveled, don't laugh... and stay upwind

Best of luck with it Perry. Reckon we need some before, during and after pics (the bathroom, not you).

I could just imagine day-by-day shots of me getting more-and-more grimy and unkempt - final shot could be a full-on tramp shot, with me sitting in the gutter with a bottle of meths in hand

Is this like Movember, but without washing instead of without shaving? You could get sponsorship! Plus, half way through the month, people will donate money to you to shower because you smell! It's a Win/Win situation!

I had bathrooms done in old place big distruption, I've also learnt what not to do, having had dodgy bloke do ours once.

My tips

Don't scrimp on the re plaster of the room, get the whole room done, insist on it being smooth and square before any tiling is started, this is very important particularly if using big tiles as any imperfection in the wall will show as tile not being level at the edges. The bigger the tiles the more it shows.

Make sure they don't take short cust with the tile adhesive, make sure they do it properly, the adhesive should cover the whole of the back of tile and not just a few spots behind each one as this can make tiles look uneven but it saves cost. Also make sure they use the right adhesive and grout for a bathroom it needs to be waterproof around shower and bath and flexible on services that move like bath panels.

Good luck.

My extension plans are currently with the local council hopefully startinga tweleve week build including one new showerroom and one refitted bathroom in April, major distruption.....

Been through this its not an easy time but will be well worth it.

If your near the Cotswold call by you can use our shower

Cheers Matt, but if it gets so bad that I need to drive up to the Cotswolds for a shower I think you'll smell me before you see me

You never know Perry!! I have been known to ver nature to the seaside :)
Actually, I could always take a bar of soap and a towel down to the beach - could be quite 'bracing' at the moment...

I got mine done last year in march when it was snowing... Had snow coming in through the open windows, ceiling rafters!

I had to shower in the gym every morning for a week!

Was messy as heck too having plaster dust and tile dust all over the house... Literally got everywhere!

But was worth it.

OK and now the gory pictures

Bear in mind that this bathroom was last changed about 20 years ago (before we lived here) and we've been living with it because I wanted a proper full-arsed job done... no half-measures

It was so hideous, I can't bring myself to post full-fat 'before' photos but, this is how it looked at lunchtime with some of the hideous tiles removed...

And the mouldy grout behind the toilet cistern - I don't know why Cindy didn't clean back there, it's her job and there was at least 5mm clearance :poke:

Now at the end of the day - and it looks better now than it did this time yesterday

Your builder left you a bucket to sh1t in!!
Luckily we have another toilet so won't have to decend to that.

I may harbour ambitions to Move Like Jagger but I have no interest in Defecating Like Taz
