An un-insured driver wrote off my car INS PRICE UPDATE

Police seem to go down the route that if you are insured and there are no injuries the insurance can sort it.

Sorry to hear this and further highlights that those in society that pay their way are penalised and those that don't have no deterrent. This kind of thing really annoys me.

I don't buy the "blame the government" theory either.Yes I'm sure cuts etc play a big part in where resources go but it's against the law to drive without insurance and it's the police job to uphold the law. I would be speaking to your local mp and someone as high up in your police force as possible.

I'm not saying it's right, but maybe a little bit more info on the evidence at hand, can the police get a solid prosecution etc. before blurting out stupid offensive statements that belong on the likes of Citroen Saxo forums might be a bit more constructive / useful.

Sorry, but police cuts are not a theory, it's fact. You have a finite amount of resources vs task in any business. Do you not think every copper on the ground, who are like me and you, would love to investigate every crime possible and get a conviction? Think about it. If it's not being investigated, there's a reason behind it. Which I'm sure the OP would have been given, and if not I would also like to know why.

Apologies, the comment wasn't directed specifically at you but at the generalised excuse that is given/accepted by the media etc. I think we accept it too easily.

Agreed, we don't know the details so it may be there is no evidence etc.

Really sorry to hear about that Ash!

If you need a hand with the insurance claim I went through a fair old bit of hassle trying to get my Lotus sorted when it went in a fire, so drop me a line.

Sad news,
As others have said if your in a position to by back and break the car of the juicy bits before scrapping you could come out ok.

Is it an urban myth, that all our car insurance policies are loaded in order to fund no fault no insurance accidents ?

It's not a myth when our insurance goes up every year because of them!

Sorry to hear this very bad news Ash. Hope you get sorted soon. Then after Christmas you can maybe start looking for something to replace the Zed.

Ah no apology needed Dan, my comment wasn't directed at you either, more the person who was chucking the 'C' bomb about earlier

God, that's gutting to hear. There appears to be a few of these types of accidents happening to Z's just lately...being bashed while parked on the road. Try and buy back and then break it.

Police didn't get involved or come as no one was injured and no one was blocking the road etc they did out as translator on the phone but not sure what was said to be honest as he didn't speak any English. He basically ripped off the front wheel of his Ford Galaxy so he was left immobilised too not sure what he did as mine was towed away before his moved.

I have since called up Surrey police again and it has now been escalated to the next level and they will let me know what they decide to do some hoping the May get prosecuted or something but we shall see, he had a Lithuanian driving license so not sure if he will hang about long enough to find out or they will ever catch him!

Regarding no insurance bureau they won't pay out any of my expenses or excess as no one was injured, in result of the accident. So it falls on my insurance to sort it out.

Thanks for all of the nice comments so far guys, I have managed to borrow my girlfriends mums seat Ibiza 1.2 3 cylinder until Christmas so I have until then to sort something out. Think it's going to be a bit different to drive compared to the zed but at least I will be able to get to work :)

So sorry to hear your bad news OP. I know if I got stopped and found to have no insurance it would be a fine 6 points and the car inpounded. Go figure. The police won't chase anything like this if it's not an easy payday, where as if you did this in France you would be held until you paid

This is only the case if both drivers are insured and there is no prospect of prosecuting someone for an offence under Road Traffic legislation. If it is determined that someone is driving with no insurance, their car should be seized and they will ultimately be prosecuted through the courts.

Really gutted for you OP, what an absolute nightmare. Really sickens me that people think they can swan around with no concern for other people and their property etc.

Gutted for you OP - hope you manage to get a decent result from the insurance, but from past experience sadly you generally need to give them a hard time to get a sensible offer.

Uninsured Lithuanian - ah the joys of EU membership!

Little police action - ah the joys of public service budget cuts!

Can't help thinking that a generally law-abiding, middle-class, working Briton with a V5 with their real address on it wouldn't be getting away as lightly.....................but maybe I am a cynic?

Good luck anyway.

absolutely gutted for you :( i would be absolutely distraught if something like this happened to me and i dont know if i would have been able to hold my temper either :/ at least nobody was injured.

hopefully you get a decent amount back or can at least buy back and break for parts as that seems to be the best option to get more money altho its a lot extra hassle for ya :(

Bloody hell what a shock to deal with. Think I would want to rip his head of and do a dirty down his neck. He could have seriously
injured someone and put them in a wheelchair for life, no insurance!! if he lives in this country he should be deported.

No you are not a cynic. That's was my point we would be easy meat for prosecution.
