I don't know what's funnier, thinking that getting a car from Dick Lovett is worth advertising, or thinking that the sport button tightens the steering and suspension!

Can't see much wrong with the advert myself asides from the misapprehension over the sport button.

Not sure how keen the price is but it looks like a great car too!

Although having read the corresponding thread a while back I fully understand Raify's issue with Dick Lovett!

Apart from Raify getting stiffed over his wheels by Lovetts it's still a reasonable line to put in an advert. I do, however, understand his bitterness. Price seems about right for a bit of negotiation being factored in.

I wouldn't say that spec would have been over £50k new, as it doesn't even have extended leather or piano black trim. Mine has those as well as all the rest and only cost just over £48k new. Although I'm not sure what the original cost of the car has anything to do with the current value.

The Sport button info is only slightly wrong, it just doesn't do anything to the suspension. Throttle & steering are adjusted.

Nice colour combo though and I think at that price it's a bargain.

I should probably let that go  But this is the internet, I can be mad forever!

There's a few Dick Lovett's isn't there? Maybe this one isn't full of thieves and liers.....

It just tickled me that someone's driven that car for ages enjoying the placebo sports steering and suspension.

ETA: Steering is NOT adjusted on a M car, despite what the EVO buying guide says. It's Hydraulic.

That's the sort of price I'd expect an '07 plate to fetch to be honest! Nice looking car mind!

Think they are getting the sport button mixed up with the new Z4's though!

I bought a 320 diesel from Dick Lovett in Swindon. One benefit to that proved to be the tax disc holder they gave me that had their name on it (installed on passenger side of vehicle obviously), it proved a bit of an ice breaker with girly friends in the car. On a first date I heard from a lady after she got into the car "Oh, DIck Lovett, I should have that name in my car" - I was a little :o but rather amused.

I don't rate Dick Lovett Swindon that highly either. In fact my local dealer was took over by Dick Lovett some years ago, still a pretty good dealer but not as good as they were.

Nope, doesn't. Just the throttle....

I'm wouldn't defend Dick Lovett Bristol, by all accounts the way they behaved over Raify's CSL's was scandalous. Conversely, however, I bought my Z4MC from them and there had to be a bit of trust both ways. They delivered the car to me in Glasgow and picked up my M3 unseen from me as a trade in. They took my word that the M3 was as described (it was immaculate anyway) and the Z4 was in perfect condition when it arrived. At that time it would have cost me £3000 more to get the same car in Scotland with no spec whatsoever.

My point is everyone has different experiences with these dealerships, it can be down to individuals as well as overall incompetence/mismanagement. There are BMW garages in Scotland which I see recommended by others but which have given me appalling service.

Well, it's almost identical to my car even down to being a Dec 06 car and had it been available for sale back in November I'd have bitten his hand off at that price. Let's not forget that built into that price is the £850 ish that has been spent to extend the warranty which makes it something approaching a risk free proposition as a private sale (subject to a decent inspection)

It also has the desirable (to some) options of Sat Nav and Bluetooth. I wouldn't use either but I know when I come to sell I'll get phonecalls from people whingeing about the absence of these two items but this is the cross I must bear to have an uncluttered dash.

As for the comment about that being the price of an 07, that may be so but not for long. Given the Z4MC had no significant changes in its short life, i think once all cars are out of the first three years of warranty( 1 year tops) we are going to see some parity on price in respect of age. Price will then be driven by condition, colour choice and options.

Finally, not much experience of Dick Lovett, but I went to see a Carbon Black Z4MC they had, and it had spent the first 15 months of its life unregistered in the compound of the supplying dealer but had managed to rack up 1100miles. Whether they were actively hiding this from me, (until I scrutinised the paperwork) or simply didn't know will remain a mystery. Always wanted to buy from Dick Lovett Hungerford though simply because it's near where I grew up.

is that an issue? Was being driven on trade plates I assume

I wasn't happy about it really, but as this post shows http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=14416 I was in the minority. Most people seemed to think it was fine. Presumably it was being used on trade plates but it there were plenty of puzzled looks when I asked those sort of questions. They simply didn't know - but that stage of its life was at another dealer so why would they.

Personally I can't see how it is sound business practice, and I don't like the idea of any car sitting around not being used but to be fair, it drove really nicely. In the end I discounted it as the blend between spec, colour and price didn't work for me.

Sure matey? How can hydraulic steering be changed on the fly?

No, not sure, and can't find any reference to it in the manual either - but there's nothing about the M-diff or what the sport button does in there anyway. :P

Maybe it can be changed on the fly by opening & closing a valve to reduce the flow and thus the amount of hydraulic assistance.

Mine seems to tighten up a bit when I push the sport button, so I assumed it was another function of the button?

My e34 M5 did a similar thing when you switched the electronic suspension from normal to sport modes - but that was recirculating ball (due to lack of space for a proper rack).

100% certain that the sport button on the Z4M and also on the E46 M3 has the sole effect of sharpening the throttle response.

me too. Obviously on the non /M's it's a different matter.

On my SI Coupe the sport button changes the throttle, the suspension is harder and steering is heavier. So the M must different.
