just an update for anyone thinking of changig the gearbox oil to amsoil mtf, i have now put over a hundred miles on car ,{ m coupe} since i changed and yes a definate improvement, even 1st to second much better, the box still needs positive shifts as is i think the heavy duty nature of the box, excepting first to second which is better slowly , feeling it in and over to the left. i think a weighted knob may further improve it as would they say a short shift kit with weighted shift lever, i have also backed off the cluthch stop to giv a bit more dead space as after fitting the cdv things are so much better that the clutch stop isnt so important now. i will keep my standard m knob for now as i am pretty happy with the results, did an interim oilservice as well for peace of mind . :driving:

no i dont think its a placeaboe effect, as ihad a z3m for 5 years with the same box only 5 speed withall the same faults only not as bad and it helped that immensely. whether as you said it may just be new oil, certainly, if ihad replaced with oe fluid the results may have been just the same, but many posts sung the praises of amsoil and royal purple and as i had good results before with amsoil i went with that, as long as the box is shifting better and easier to live withthen got to be worth it. also it is a cheap diy job and if it didnt help then theres little lost and better to have tried than to not bother and always wonder if your gear shifts could have been improved. :driving:

further up date, now a couple of hundred miles since amsoil , cdv etc , had'nt driven the car for a week due to cornish summer monsoons, took it out yesterday and gear shifting is just so much better, i dont know exactly what synchromesh 's do, but amsoil is called MTF synchromesh fluid ; so i guess it is this that it has lubricated better than the original 40,000 mile old fluid was doing, so much more like a normal car feel now , i am deeply in love with this car again. as they say " dont be dopey, ... call opie ! less than 45 quid , job done. :D

I put Amsoil MSF in my Z3M coupe gearbox..

It went from being clunky and sticky to light and slick..I like the product a lot.

How much oil does it hold ?

dont know, i just kept filling it up till it overflowed out the top of the gearshift gaiter,.. anyone know how to get amsoil off carpets !!! :poke: No, it takes 1.5 litres iirc
