Amazon bargain springs!!!!

I'm currently in The Lakes and have scrapped my M bumper and undertray countless times over the past 3 days. Infact i was doing the same on speedbumps and poorly surfaced roads down South.

I dont understand how you guys can get away with dropping your Z's 15 / 30mm more without doing the above or worse?

:?

By the looks of it the M bumper sits lower anyways than the standard bumper?

Will soon see how it is. if its a nightmare to drive its a relatively quick change to change it back to the old springs. Was willing to try for £20!

correct, the M bumper fangs sit about 3/4 inch lower - However the undertray is standard

But yes, if you can fit yourself then its worth a punt for £20

I've just ordered a trolley jack http://www.sgs-engineering.com/hydraulic-jacks/trolley-jacks/tjl2-2-tonne-low-profile-trolley-jack so I can make the change myself at the weekend.

I've got spring compressors but have heard the fronts can be a pain to swap. If thats the case a quick trip to kwik fit with the struts in the boot should do it :D

I'm sure its not so difficult, I've done rears before, just not fronts. Do you use blue loctite on the nuts when assembling? I'm sure I've read this somewhere...

Cheers

its not something that i have ever used when changing springs. (that doesnt mean that you shouldnt, but its not something i have heard of doing before)

Yes have to agree wouldnt risk putting them on. My H&Rs on my M are about 30mm front 35mm rear and if im going quick it does bottom... a lot! on the lakes meet it did it numerous times  adamski can back me up he was rite behind me. Although the car handles very well. I just think if the car is bottoming out then a cheap spring isnt going to last long...

Here is my drop.

Will have to see about the springs as to how long they last. they were only cheap because of the sale that was on. back up to £70 odd now. If they dont last... old springs will simply go back on.

Just gone to fit them and need an 18mm socket to get the rear bolt out from the suspention... guess what size I have missing... :headbang: off to get one along with the spring compressors!

So a 20 min jobbie for the rears and voila!
Still waiting for the spring compressors to come in the post this morning so I can attack the fronts!

Gave it a wee boon round our bumpy Ind Estate and no rubs or scrapes as yet. Will report over the next few days as they settle.
Love the look!

Just fitted the springs, lowered it all round by 30mm looks damn good. quite an easy job 2 hrs.
On the short drive home the ride seems a little harsher but couldn't throw it about as the roads are too wet.
Took some before and after pics.

The drop looks GREAT! Top job ZedMed
All finished in mine too this afternoon. Had to rush off home so will pop up some pics this evening

Only issue I had with mine was gettin the chuffing jack out from under the car when it was done! Had to shimmy it!! It feels low too. Had a 25 mile drive home and no scrapes through A roads, B roads, Dual carriage way... Plain sailing! I too thought it would be a much harsher ride but I have been please fly surprised. Bumps feel better than before and ride is nice and smooth. I am a happy bunny.
If I held my hand out the door though I would end up scraping my knuckles on the floor!!

Very nice

Some pics of mine finished with front and rears...

Very happy with final result... Plus I can get on to my drive... Just...!

to clarify, when changing the fronts, did you remove the 3 bolts on the strut tower and remove this with the strut, or remove the central bolt?

From the looks of this:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT33&mospid=47798&btnr=31_0646&hg=31&fg=10

It appears the central bolt is holding the front spring in place, so I imagine you need to remove the full strut mount like this: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2733&p=39726&hilit=suspension

My first front removal

oh jesus, that looks so good luke 8) i still haven't got around to fitting the fronts. may do it this weekend.

those pics also make me want to spend out on spacers too 8)

Just remove the top 3 bolts leaving the single larger one in the middle and remove the entire damper with the spring on :)

Thanks! Think spacers / springs work great!

Well after jacking one side up, neither the front or rear bolts wanted to shift on the shocks, even with a few hard hits

With fear of shearing bolts or breaking parts, enough for today. I think the garage can have this problem while I drink a coffee... ;-)

Probably a good idea! Shame they wouldn't budge for you :(
