Alternative to 35is?

Gentlemen, if you have a disagreement could you please take it off line from what was, up to this point, a reasonable thread.
Thank you.

I’ve been asking myself the same question since my 35is was written off in October. The only thing I can find close in performance, spec and value is a e93 M3. Albeit there is quite a difference when it comes to running costs.

I have the Mustang GT and the Z4. They are quite different to drives. If choosing between these 2 you would ask yourself do I want a sleek little sport car to slip through the curves or a raucous muscle car to attack the road.

For most people a car is a tool for transport and they judge a car by how efficiently it handles their needs. For every one here (behind the wheel of a Z3, Z4 , or a few lucky 8s... we judge a car by different standards. We are more concerned with how it looks, how it sounds, how it corners and brakes...and most importantly how we feel when driving it.
We can only offer subjective suggestions. Which may be the best help to a guy who's heart is broken by a car. :poke:
So get out there and find another Z. When the sun is out and top is down and your rolling through the curves left right left right... you will have a big grin on your face. :D

Eloquently put indeed.
But of course, in our small island, the roads are narrow and the curves are sharp a lot of the time, which kind of drifts us back to the discussion of how much power you need.
Is it the top speed achieved on the few short straights between A and B, or the satisfaction of maintaining a slightly lower, but more constant rhythm and consequently arriving at about the same time.
For me it's the latter, but a lot of people just get addicted to that sheer grunt.

So Steve, are you a rhythm person or a grunter

Apologies to all, I should have handled that a bit better. In response to my right honourable friend enuff_zed I did think that maybe the 35is was not really cut out for Norfolk roads. The roads here are not great. They are as bumpy as hell. There are very few long sweeping curves to soak up all that power. Look, Norfolk roads are just plain bad. As for asking the Mrs......are you talking snoring?

Hi Steve, well I guess then that it depends on how much you'd miss the sound, power and (for some) kudos of having the 35is.
If what you want is a fun car for nipping around the back roads or wriggling along the Norfolk Coast road then why not do what I just did for Val. Spend about 1/8 of the budget on a decent E85 and keep the change for servicing and fuel.

Well, there is some mileage in that because I'm really looking hard at my pension options now. Sad but true but I want to be retired in
the next couple or 3 years. I have a cunning plan and see my IFA next week. With an e85 I could kick the proverbial out of it and almost write that money off. When I first started looking at my Z4 journey this is where I began. I can't go into details but my circumstances changed and I then found myself in the position of, hey, I can have that one. Top of the range. Look at me ma top of the world!! 10 Stevo points if you know what film that is from. And no cheating.

Jimmy Cagney? Think it was White Heat?

It was. I think I watched it with my dad when I was kid he kept saying it the rest of the week.

Something to be said for affordable toys
My 3.0 is a race car (to me) that corners like a cat with a dog on her tail.

No. I remember we did watch the film together. It was when he fiitted the central heating and he was on top of the roof putting in the flue liner. Yep, he was on the roof holding on to the chimney shouting 'Look at me ma top of the world!!' ha ha he was fearless my dad. He was a lot of other things as well but no one is perfect. :-)

I’m laughing at that as it’s almost the same scenario my granny shouted that line at me. 82 years young and on top of her two story house painting her chimney. I nearly had a turn when I saw her. She wasn’t for comming down until she’d finished :headbang:

She’d already painted the rest of it with my granda footing the ladder because he didn’t like heights.
