Alternative to 35is?

Why not look at the cheaper 35i. Not really much difference and available with both a manual and the dct. A remap would negate (and then some) any differences in power output and a fettle of the exhaust would sort that. If the 2 pedal cars are your thing might be worth considering the 2.0 versions with the 8 speed box. Engine might not be as sweet but the 8 speed box is superior to the dct box and a remap gets you near the 35is in terms of bhp/torque. It's also worth noting the 2.0 is a fair chunk lighter the 3.0t, with that weight being taken out of the nose it will handle better. Not that the E89 is ever going to be a real handler

Why not buy a cheaper, solid 30i. Save a few quid and have a worry free car to enjoy?

That's what I suggested but from my previous post on other threads I believe Steve wants a newer car which I can understand. However I do think the 23i and 30i if older are the safer bet of all the E89s. Other than the engines gearbox the differences between these slightly older cars and the newer models is very little. If you get yourself a low mileage properly looked after 30i (not much point in the 23i since running costs are exactly the same IMHO) you will get a car that will still last a very long time and be as enjoyable to drive and hopefully less to go wrong!

For me the only real contender to the Z4 E89 be it the 35i 35is or 30i is the Porsche Boxster, just means for the same money you'll need to buy something a bit older or with a bit more miles otherwise at this price point I would stick with an E89 Z4. I have had Japanese cars before Supra Turbos, Celicas, MR2, Imprezza WRX etc but they just don't feel as special to drive as a German car, the Elise is great but a bit too hard core, The TT is just plain ugly IMHO! and the rest is just a lot more money!

Nissan 370Z
I've been very happy with my 370Z Roadster especially with its modified exhaust/HFC/intake to free up much more noise. It isn't the quickest(5.5 to 60) and perhaps a touch too heavy, but I do really enjoy the way it drives. :driving:

You can also get them with an auto if that is the OP's preferred gearbox.

I had a 370Z GT edition for a while,it was a decent steer actually.

The cabin noise was high, but if a roadster was bought then it wouldnt matter.

Dont see many either, and residuals seem to be pretty good. I kept mine a year and sold it for exactly the same cash i bought it for off a dealer.

Yes and I've read a few complaints about the 370Z(coupe) regarding cabin noise. I only drive mine roof down so I don't notice it(plus the exhaust noise on mine drowns any other noise out anyway).

They are a rare car and I've had mine a year in April(I've not seen another Roadster) and I've only seen two Coupes in that time.

You really need to know what you want in the car. The boxster 986/987 is more akin to the E85 in terms of refinement and raw driving experience. The E89 is more comfortable/refined in that respect but the trade off is its more of a cruiser than a outright sports car. Just like an SLK I. That respect really

Apologies for repeating myself, groundhog day (lol). Yep, 35is it is. Today there are only 3 on AT. I paid £18,350 (2014) for mine so it would have to be comparable. I will just wait and see. I discounted the G29 just on car tax.

See the light , two Atacama Yellow 35s with low mileage on AT

I think I would prefer a more conservative colour. Orange  Anyway let's see what turns up.

Get an E85 3.0si. Plenty fast enough when the roof is down. Now cheap as chips, reliable and if's a weekend car, gives you all the convertible experience at cheap money. I'm not selling mine, but buy one from someone like me (old codger) on the forum who looks after it and uses it as a Sunday car. Mine still gets comments from admirers and it is 13 years old.

The op didn’t want a 30i e89 due to the age of them (the youngest are now approaching 10 years old) so i doubt he’d be interested in an older e85 :?

Why don't you get yourself a little Fiat Punto? I truly believe that you and fast cars don't mix.
It sounds like humour and you don't mix. #sidesplitting

Well Steve, I guess the fact you're still on this forum is encouraging.
Maybe see you next Saturday for the breakfast meet?
