Hi
I am looking at an Alpina, 2005 lux model with 75k on it.
I gave read a bit about these, but wondered if anyone on here has one.

Are there any issues to be aware of when checking it out.

Any ideas on values , very few for sale to compare to

Any help welcome

Thanks

There are no major issues over a standard 3.0, if you follow the buyers checklist for the standard zed you'll be fine. Mine was rock solid and there are a few owners on here. Markeg's one is higher mileage than the one you're looking at. You do occasionally hear of head gasket failure but that's a simple compression test to eliminate as an issue.

Good luck with it, they're fantastic cars. There's an amount of M vs Alpina discussion, I've owned both and they're both brilliant. Different tools for different jobs. You'll get no Alpina bashing from me :)

What build number is the car you're looking at? I might have some info on it

Values are fairly steady at the moment but price depends on if it's from a dealer or a private sale, lux cars are worth about £500 more than standard cars. What's it up for?

Head gaskets can be an issue at around that mileage, and are very expensive, so worth checking if it's been done

How's about a Black Lux with red leather in mint, and I mean MINT condition on a 54-plate with 52k and FBMWSH? Mine's available and very well cared for, with no issues. Not cheap, but among the best you will ever see! PM if you want to know anyrhing about them/it; I'm a bit knowledgable on them, too :P

Weaknesses? Head gaskets on high milers are a huge cause for concern if left unattended (no usual oil/water mix as a pre-warning), and then the usual E85 issues, ie steering column, vanos, rear springs: all changed in recent times on mine 8)

Modest with it :D

Actually he's not kidding on either point.

Pointless being modest about the car Stu: I know just how good it is as I've seen and driven more than most :driving: As regards me...who knows!! :o

As Sytner will offer around £12.5k-£13k for a trade-in RS in decent order at up to 60k, that's very cheap. The last one I saw at that price had 100k on it and was tatty.

If you can stretch to the extra, Ade's is well worth looking at as it's doubtful that you'll find a better example (except, perhaps, mine :P )

Do you know the build number of the car that you're looking at (it's on the plate above the rear-view mirror)?

Not sure of the production number, have emailed the owner. It is on the Alpina register site- number 308, based in Southampton

I am taking it as part ex for my e89 35i,I need a family car now, but will keep this for the weekends :-)

If you're arranging a px deal then things are a little more complicated than a straight purchase - look over the buyers guide for the E85 as that will give you the majority of the pointers for things to look at and scrutinise the service history. Expect an 'unusual' exhaust sound when stating from cold but it should settle down to a smooth burble within 30 secs or so (depends how cold it is)

Good luck - they are great cars! As said, a simple compression test will tell you if the HG is sound.... Mines at 88k and all ok
