ALL in one engine monitoring unit?? anyone that can advise?

hi guys ,i REALLY need a solution for monitoring the different engine parameters, what i absolutly dont want is a million gauges tacked to my A pillar, or holes cut into my interior, which with the z4m seems like the only way to mount gauges, but to be able to monitor the engine properly CAN save you alot of money, especially when running a blower, i really need something thats a complete all in one solution and compact.

I need a small unit that can be discreetly mounted to allow me to monitor a number of different engine functions, boost, oil pressure, fuel pressure, Exhaust gas temp, water temp....... ideally water, boost and EGT and ill be happy with those three items.

i have been looking at the dynojet wideband 2 but i think thats more for data logging. Can anyone point me in the direction of a small in in one unit that will allow me to scroll through the different engine parameters, and view on it own little LCD screen. Any help with this would be much appreciated, if i cant work out a solution im going to have to go the gauge route which in a z4m with literally no space to mount could cause an issue!!

can anyone suggest anything that fits the bill???

Taz that was another thread..... have a read and you'll get your answer, i really dont want this thread sidetracked as its an important question.......

can we keep it on topic please.

Scangauge is all in one and monitors all the data going to ECU it's small enough to fit in the ashtray, only issue is the position of the OB2 socket on the Z not good to have a plug sticking out there
There is a nice one that uses an OB2 blue tooth sender linking to your IPhone, screen is customisable but again it only displays what the ECU gets
There is a 3 gauge set up that replaces the ashtray, looks OEM , if I remember correct you need to send your ashtray surround in as it requires a little fettling.
Found it

Zpost is where to look, you may get a better response on there too.

I've seen something where they replaced the ash tray for gauges.

Beedub, Is it for everyday use or track use?

Some complete all-in-one units could be mounted in the glove box quite easily. SImply open the the glove box when you require it! Linked to this it would be very easy to mount discreet LED warning lights with parameters that you can set on the dashboard for everyday use.

I was impressed by these P3 LED vent gauges, but I don't think it gives you all the information you need. Obviously not for the directly Z4, but anything is possible!

I completely agree gauges can look awful, especially on a high class interior like the M.

Just for the record I mean a gauge set up like this

Although, if you had satnav, it would be interesting to see how much work is required to show the read out through that!

hi guys its for everyday DISCREET use, with my engine running so much power now all it takes it a hiccup somewhere and ive got a very expensive issue!!

the leather z gauges look great but for the price im certain i can get a high all in one solution, FYI the leather z kit will run 500 quid once you paid you import taxes, insane but i may have to go that route as i dont want to be replacing my engine, especially once the car is used in anger on the track.

When I had a supercharger fitted to my last car I had a wideband AFR meter plus oil pressure and temp, Aem make a 19 function gauge but I think you need their engine management controller to make it all work.
Spa digital gauges have outputs on them so you could install out of sight and use the outputs to soun an alarm or flash a light, they also have memory function to scroll back and see what triggered the alarm.

ok.... i guess im going to have to just speak to simpson and see what they come up with, the leather z gauge pod is .... out of stock for "at least 2 months" why on earth they even bother listing it on the website i have no idea.....

The only other option is the 3d design pod for the z4......

they have no UK suppliers, every supplier they list on the web isnt interested in the z4 platform and wont supply me with the gauge holder...... there are plenty of great gauges out their but unfortunatly i cant get the specific holder......

So im trying to find something very similar tot he scangauge size and idea, being able to scroll through loads of different parameters but i need more performance focused type unit, the scan gauge is obd2 based and just reads simple info via the cars port but not thinkgslike boost, AFR, Fuel pressure ect ect.......

Alfa yes the SPA gauges are very good, expensive but very good...... unfortunatly i hav nothing to mount them in, hence the need for a small discreet all in one unit that will allow me to mount it out the way....

arhhhh sigghhhhhh.... unless simpson come up with something im lost......

Beedub my thought was mount the spa gauges in the glovebox and use the alarm output to warn you of a problem
Scan gauge can do boost but it needs a map sensor, we have oil temp so all you really need is oil pressure and AFR, boost pressure is also nice to see to check for belt slip, I have a small digital pressure gauge that runs off 12v, I don't need it so if you want it it's yours, it's an industrial unit so no cover etc but it's quite small

We might have a winner :-)

Alpa what car have u blown??

More details
Honda S2000 Rotrex SC 380 HP, lot of fun but hard work

Niicceee!!! That must be awesome, we should book
A trackday together and compare sets, and generally have some fun...... Honest the way a centri s/c builds boost on a high reving engine is just beautiful.......

What type of boost are u seeing??
Intercooled?? Whats the size is the blower??
My fave thing abt the ess kit is the v3si blower, can flow upto 25psi and 775bhp, so whenever im upping power im just changing the pulley with supporting mods....

The vt2 ive just ordered is 7psi
New large front mount intercooler
Oil cooler
Areoquip fittings
Smaller pulley
New billet crank pulley
New tune

This will net me around 515bhp...

Alpha please post some pics!!!
Are u happy with the kit??

Im going to try and do a glovebox mount gauge system, any pics of ur setup would be aweme.

*excuse sp im using iphone 4

you have your wires crossed or im not explaining myself well, i dont have the Honda any more i sold it to buy the M coupe, it was faster than the M but lacked the Torque so quite a tiring car to drive fast, i kept it totaly stock on the outside so used to suprise a lot of high end cars that should have easily dispatched an S2000
as for mounting gauges in glove box a simple set of pod mounts on a thick peice of MDF cut to the glovebox profile should keep it rattle free, although the SPA gauges are pricey you can get the dual read out ones so oil pressure and one other fits in a 53mm pod
what other would you want? i dont rate water temp as anything to take notice of, if you have no water (a bad thing) the sender is reading warm as its not in water, oil temp is shown on the OEM gauge, if you dont want to go for for an AFR meter ( i would, its the most important thing on a non standard map) then an exhaust temp sensor is an indication of rich or lean
as i said before a boost gauge is very usefull as the belt will stretch and need tightening from time to time and this shows up as loss of boost, also you will eventially be sure its not as fast as it was so its good to know boost is still strong

this is similar but a new bracket design to reduce belt slip

awesome car... ok my wires are definatly crossed, sorry about that, wow what a lovely car.

Yeah agree the ones i really wanted were boost, EGT, Fuel pressure, AFR and oil pressure if possible, i spoke to simpson today and they are going to see if they can come up with anything for me!

cars booked for may 9th @ 8.00 for the vt2 upgrade, inspection 1, alignment, coolant change, gauge install, mmmmm im guessing that bill is going to hurt.... lol better get saving.

i bet that s2000 was soo nice to drive, the s/c z4m is perfection, you must attend one of my trackdays to come and have a ride in the car....

I've been thinking, well daydreaming about something like that. I wonder if its possible to wire the pro sat nav screen to a specialised module. Race cars use these all the time albeit on diminutive digital clocks.

Who needs a sat nav or radio when going around in circles around the track anyway :D

I swore I would keep this standard, but you never know, lifes too short to put things off
If I go FI I would deffinately go with a Rotrex SC, Due to the special planetary gears it runs at 20000 rpm and delivers boost similar to a turbo, I still miss the jet like whine and the woosh of the dump valve when lifting off throttle.

alfa im loving the way your taling now!!! DO IT!!!!

ok alfa, i MAY have found a gauge pod, a very nice one that replaces the ash tray, its painfully expensive but i need to able to monitor the engine....

so WHAT are the three most important engine vitals i should monitor in your opinion,

im thinking Boost, wideband lamda gauge AFR, water temp, i no your not keen on water temp but at least if i can see it crawling higher i can back off plus the car doesnt have one stock.

finally getting somewhere, until that pod is on its way to me and paid for i wont believe it!! you will not believe the hastle this has been to source......

btw im using the stack pro control stepper gauges.... with peak recall and alarms for high/low values.
