Alarm problem

just got the zed back from a visit to the dealer due to a problem with the alarm randomly going off in the rain, knew there was a fix involving foil but was surprised to discover that this was actually in the door, always assumed it was in the roof.The tech gave me a printout of the picture showing where to put it I will post it if anyone is interested and can tell me how to add a scanned image.
 
Mine went off in a massive rain storm but only that time.

It's a warranty job.

Had mine fixed two years ago. You can replicate it by spraying water from a hose at the drivers door.

Is there a BMW publication re this problem?
My dealer says he couldn't find a fault!
 
Could your E89 have inherited the alarm Achilles heel of the E85, the dodgy bonnet sensor?

I dont think so. The car was only 18 months old at the time and it only happened once in a real downpour in Italy.

It triggered three times in the storm -until I did the double press of the fob to disable the tilt and interior sensors. The bonnet switch would still be in operation in this condition. :thumbsup:

Had the same problem,fixed under warranty :thumbsup:
 
Ive had mine go off twice now. Once in the rain, which wasn't particularly heavy and yesterday for no apparent reason

I was told by the bmw senior tech it is something to do with condensation building up in the foam which causes the alarm sensors to trigger
 
From "never heard of that before" they now say there was a problem on some previous models - They were taken aback when I said that I had a BMW publication. The car goes in on a day to suit me!!!

Just out of interest, where are the sensors? I assume it has a volumetric system? Should it trigger if I put anything in the car with the roof down?
 
Mine triggers with the roof down and the alarm activated. Not sure exactly where the sensors are located though

An update:-
The car went into the dealer today and I gave them a copy of the mod required. They were intrested in the publication and are doing the mod. They said they are using Tesco's best foil and Gaffer tape!
The workshop manager tells me that the publication comes from the USA market so is probably not as well known over here.

My car is normally garaged overnight and only comes out on warm dry days so its only when I go on holiday will I have a potential false alarm so
only the next heavy shower while on holiday will tell if it's worked ok!

Don't worry - as long as it works. It will stop next doors cat deficating on the seats! :lol:
