I just wanted to get the vacuum-cleaner under the seat so i took the driver seat out of the car. Reconnect everything... light on !
Darn ! :headbang:

mine has come on today 2.2 2004. its under warranty with the dealer so hopefulyy they will pay the £££££££££ it seems to cost. :headbang: :headbang:

I'm going to fit a new pressure mat myself on my 2006 Z4.
Anybody know the part number and where I can get it at a reasonable price ?
I believe up to 2005 the mat was a 2-wire unit; from 2006 it was changed to a 3-wire unit.
Anybody done this ?

I have a 2004 BMW Z4. 3.0i
Since taking the seats out to clean inside, I have also had the air bag light come on aswell, and cannot figure out how rectify the problem.

My airbag light has come on too, I posted this on the Forum a few days ago:

BMW of N. America sent out a notice dated December 2008 about the failure of the "passenger seat occupant detection mat." When that happens both air bag warning lamp and the passenger air bag "on-off" lamp will illuminate and the passenger side air bag will not deploy. They recommend that the vehicle be serviced promptly and that passenger seat not be used until the problem is corrected. BMW N. America provides an extended warranty for this defect for ten years from the in service date of the vehicle. I got this notice for our 2003 Z4. Of course, none of this may apply to cars delivered in the UK, but if you would like to have a copy of the notice, I will send a scan of it. I don't think I can attach a document to a post on the Forum, so I'll need to direct it to an email address of your choice.

I don't know if disconnecting the battery does anything to fix the problem and I would be reluctant to experiment with the connectors under the seat. Good luck!

This thread is late but do you still have the article? My passenger light came on randomly after i got my engine oil changed.

I was at the dealer the other day and complained that the Passenger Seat Occupancy light was illuminated when no one was in the seat. It goes out when someone sits in the seat and come on again when I am alone. My understanding is the system should only disable the passenger airbag when it senses a child or someone under 50 lbs is in the seat. I asked them to repair it under the 10 year extended warranty for the occupancy sensor mat.
So the dealer said my car was eligible for the extended warranty but after scanning for codes they found nothing...thus no air bag problem. The warranty requires both the airbag system light and the passenger seat occupancy light to be illuminated together.
It's my opinion that the Previous Owner must have reset the airbag code I would like to trip it again so I can qualify for the extended warranty repair. Any ideas how to make the airbag system light come on and throw a code?
I recall reading a post where someone had disconnected something under the passenger seat and accidentally turned the key on before reconnecting...the result was a seat belt light needing reset...can anyone verify this and if so, what to disconnect?
Thanks...

just unclip the yellow connector under the seat (pull out the black slider on the side of the connector to release it). this will set the light off and give a general error message

do this with the key in position 2 or higher

When I bought my car a month ago the airbag light was on
The salesman told me that the "honest" previous owner had told him that it had been checked and was just a passenger seat sensor that needed sorting and he would get it done.
The car went into an indy specialist and 2 days later I rang the garage only to be told that the dash was out of the car as it was a fault with the wiring . It was diagnosed to be a loom fault and the car was put back together and returned to me while the loom was ordered from Germany
I have been away for 2 weeks and the car was left at the garage . On my return the car is still in pieces as the loom took longer to arrive than anticipated so I am still without it .
So far it has spent more time with the garage than with me but luckily i'm not footing the bill
On the plus side the weather is horrendous so I'm not missing the car as much as I would in decent weather and they are turning on the remote roof open/close function for me
Hopefully it will be sorted in time for any sunshine we might get this year

Great... My airbag light just came on...

2004 2.5i and 85k km... Drove to the mall, everything was fine. Got back in, light was on.

What's the best steps to take. I am planning on selling the car very soon so I would prefer not to spend too much money.

Could disconnecting the battery for 30 mins help? Are there any other things I can try or do to find out what may be causing this?

Otherwise its off to an indy to get an error read-out.

only option is a trip to an indy to find the problem or have a go yourself with a £20 investment. even if its an easy fix u will still need it reset

alright. Would this work:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-USB-Diagnostics-OBD-Cable-Interface-lead-Ediabas-Inpa-GT1-DIS-/110899604160?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item19d221aac0#ht_11234wt_1396?

I am quite good with computers/software so I have no doubt that I would be able to get it run and diagnose myself, as long as I can get the right cable... Should I buy this one or can anyone suggest a better cable?
